Wedding Arch Ideas
Decorate your ceremony or reception with a beautiful wedding archway
By Suzie Faloon
You can choose a metal, vinyl, bamboo or wooden arch, which is a sturdy foundation for you to decorate and stand under during your wedding ceremony or reception. An archway is the perfect grand entrance for the bride and groom or the entire party to walk through and be introduced to the reception guests. The ceremony arch can be a simple, elegant display or an elaborately decorated structure. The arch is also the ideal background for wedding photos.
Single stems or garlands of real or silk flowers can be inserted and attached to boughs of greenery, which surround the entire arch for a wedding ceremony. A chuppah for a Jewish wedding ceremony is easily made with an arch foundation. The draped fabrics of the chuppah are enhanced by cascades of crystal strings, floral garlands or ivy spirals. Consider constructing a swag of silk flowers to attach to the top segment of the arch, and add cascading silk garlands on the sides. Add a satin or velvet bow according to the season.
Grand Entrance or Reception Arch
When choosing a decorative archway for your reception, you have several choices for how to use it. An archway is a gorgeous surround for your cake table. It is also a delightful entryway for your guests to walk through into the beautifully decorated reception room. A more heavily decorated arch makes for a dramatic grand entrance. Wind tulle straight from the bolt around one side of the arch, across the top and down the other side. Attach a string of white lights to the arch, and tuck the wiring into the tulle for a soft lighting effect. Add garlands or individual flowers that match the wedding bouquets, strings of pearl beading, crystals or greenery around the shaped structure.
A balloon arch is an alternative to metal or wooden structures. A balloon artist creates an arch to be raised over the entryway to your outdoor reception or to stand sentinel over your wedding cake table. The simple arch or cluster of pearls arch can be made with a single strand of balloons in one or two colors. Elaborate arches, such as the peacock, clusters or spirals, are constructed of one to several colors. Tulle, strings of white lights, ivy and garlands of flowers can be intertwined with balloons for a striking arch at the entrance to your reception.
