If you're unsatisfied with the chairs offered by the wedding or reception halls, remember that you're not stuck with them. Even ugly chairs can be made over using chair decorations that range from subtle to extravagant. The cost varies greatly and can range from a simple tulle sash to full chair covers in your chosen color. If you're willing to stretch your budget, you can turn one of the weaker points of your decor into a strength.

  • What You Need to Know
  • Chair covers are a good way to spruce up boring or ugly chairs.
  • If done right, chair coverings can strengthen your wedding decor without breaking the bank.
  • use the chair covers as an element in your overall wedding theme: match colors and textures to complement the wedding palette.

Step 1:

Decide between using full chair covers or more simple ornamental decor. If you're planning on having a couple hundred people at your wedding, chair covers can make a big dent in your budget.

Step 2:

Select a color for your chair cover. White is the most common, but you may be able to find covers that will match your wedding theme and colors.

Step 3:

Decide if you would like a sash, and what kind. Most chair decor includes sashes, since they are inexpensive and can create a strong accent and splash of color to your ceremony or reception venue. Choose a bright color, and decide whether a satin or tulle sash best suits you. Satin will be brighter while tulle is subtler and much cheaper. Tie the sash into a bow on the outside back of the chair.

Step 4:

There are different ways to spruce up your chair covering. Consider using flowers as accessories to the chair decor, for example. Place a rose or other flower into the knot of the sash, or use the bars and style of chair to weave it in an interesting way.

Step 5:

Consider using flowers as accessories to the chair decor. Place a rose or other flower into the knot of the sash, or use the bars and style of chair to weave it in an interesting way.

  • Tips & Warnings
  • Purchase fabrics in bulk from a fabric or linen store.
  • Make sure any roses or other flowers used on the chairs have their thorns clipped.
