How To Decorate The Wedding Car
There's more tha tin cans to this fun--and embarrassing--tradition
By Julie Hampton
The wedding car is traditionally decorated with a variety of items from glass paint to streamers. The groom and groomsmen are by custom designated to decorate the car prior to the wedding. Make a statement by decorating the wedding car using a variety of creative ideas. Whether it is a hired limo or the car you use every day for work, make the wedding car a fun ride that announces to everyone the bride and groom just got married.
- What You Need to Know
- Gather your car decorating items, including, streamers, balloons, glass markers, photographs, water-base glue, feathers, finger-paints and other items that won't mar the paint on the car.
Attach streamers to the car. Tie streamers to the side mirrors, back bumper and antennas. Make sure streamers are about five feet in length so they glide through the air. Add balloons to the car for additional color.
Write on the car windows using a glass marker. Decorate the windows with the bride and groom's name and the wedding date. Write all lettering at least three inches tall so passers-by can read the car while driving; the bigger the lettering the better. Never use shaving cream as it may damage the car's paint finish.
Ask the couple's family and friends for pictures of the bride and groom. Make color copies of the photos. Insert funny or inspirational sayings next to the pictures. Tape pictures to the windows from the inside of the car.
Create signs using a computer graphics program. Print signs that read "Newlyweds on Board" or "Just Got Married." Use poster board or construction paper to make the signs by hand. Decorate the signs with glitter, paint and even feathers.
Follow traditional wedding décor for cars. Use a hammer and nail to cut holes in empty cans. Tie the cans to the back bumper using long string, about three to four feet long. Wait for the sparks to fly when the car takes off.
