How to Cover Up a Tattoo for a Wedding
Easily conceal your tattoos using basic beauty supplies
By Gwen Wark
Tattoos are a popular form of self-expression, but some brides feel that they are not suitable for display on their wedding day. While some tattoos might be hidden by attire, those that are not can be covered by skillful application of cosmetics. You don't have to be a professional makeup artist with a box of tricks to cover a tattoo; it is possible to cover body art with standard drugstore products and a little practice.
- What You Need to Know
- Gather the items you'll need to make your tattoo less noticeable including an exfoliating body scrub, two shade of foundation makeup, dusting powder and a brush to apply the powder.
- Keep a small compact of powder nearby for quick touch-ups during the reception.
Step 1:
Choose wedding attire that will cover as much of the tattoo as possible. Opera-length gloves, high necklines and lace inserts over bare skin areas will conceal a tattoo effectively.
Step 2:
Select two shades of cosmetic foundation, one slightly darker than your skin tone and one slightly lighter. Also choose a dusting powder, either translucent or matching the lighter foundation tone.
Step 3:
Prepare your skin for makeup by exfoliating the area, then shaving to make sure there are no stray hairs that will attract makeup.
Step 4:
Pat skin dry; then apply the darker shade of foundation to the tattooed area. Stay close to the design and allow it to dry.
Step 5:
Apply the lighter foundation over the darker, blending the edges well. Repeat to add layers of coverage until the tattoo is not visible.
Step 6:
Dust finished makeup with setting or finishing powder to set the foundation. The tattoo is now covered!
- Tips & Warnings
- Oil-based foundation is thicker and works best for heavy coverage.
- Remember to blend the edges of the lighter foundation well.
- Applying the foundation in thin layers and allowing it to set before buffing and applying an additional layer will build up the coverage without looking clumpy.
