How to Arrange a Faux Flower Bridal Bouquet
Make a stunning display with unusual flowers
By Suzie Faloon
A faux flower bridal bouquet can be a stunning display of silk, handmade satin, handpainted cloth or crystal beaded flowers. Unusual faux flowers can be artistically made from feathers, seashells, candy, carved wood and origami craft paper. Use your imagination to arrange a faux bridal bouquet like no other.
- What You Need to Know
- Bouquet holder with dry foam insert
- Silk flowers and greenery
- Decorative trim such as ribbon and lace
- Florist wire
- Wire cutters
- Glue gun
Step 1:
Place bouquet holder on your worktable. You can set the holder handle into a vase to work freely with your hands. Hold your flowers next to the foam of the holder to determine where the first few pieces will be placed. The floral stem should be constructed with wired or stalk-like stems 4 to 6 inches long, which can be inserted into a foam form centered within a bouquet holder.
Step 2:
Choose stems of faux leather leaf fern or any flat greenery from the material you intend to use. Insert the stems around the bottom edge of the foam. Glue the indentation where the greenery is inserted in the foam to secure it.
Step 3:
Insert a focal faux flower in the center of the top of the foam. Insert flowers in the foam at the top outer edge. Place flowers around the outer bottom edge of the foam in front of the greenery. Add more artificial flowers to fill in the foam. Hot-glue any stems that seem loose in the foam to secure them.
Step 4:
Insert flowers to fill in any small gaps in the bouquet. Hold the bouquet in front of a large mirror to get the best view of each side of the arrangement.
Step 5:
Add a ribbon, lace or tulle bow that is wired to a floral stick to the bottom of the faux flower bridal bouquet for a finishing touch. You can add sprays of pearl or rhinestone beads to the bouquet.
- Tips & Warnings
- Practice with recycled silk flowers from an outdated arrangement if this is the first time you are constructing a faux floral bouquet.
- Be sure all the flowers and leaves are firmly embedded and secured to the foam. You don't want pieces falling out on your wedding day.
- Take one of the flowers to your cake decorator so he or she can match the color to the cake decorations.

Planning Reminder:
Order reception flowers
Don't just think about the flowers' colors, consider scale. Big venues require big floral arrangements that won't get lost in the space. If you want to save money, look to large blooms that fill out a centerpiece and often cost less than two or three smaller flowers that equal its size.
