My name is Sherrie Long, and I am a professional hair and make up artist. Doing bridal hair and make up is a very rewarding experience. You are really working as a part of a team with your client. You are going in a year before their wedding day, and building a relationship with them, getting to know them as a person. If you are people person, if you really enjoy being around people, and helping people with their big day then this is a great career. I am the first person that they see on the wedding day so it is important for me to set the pace for the the theme. Whether it is exciting, and fun, and happy, and poppy or very soft, and romantic. The brides opinion always comes first. She knows her face, and her hair better than anyone. She wakes up with it every day so I always listen to what they have to say, and what they are comfortable with before I will even start a hair style that I will certainly make the best recommendation for them. I will always look at a persons face shape, and tell them what I think works best. Some people know their faces really well, and can they know what looks great on them. And sometimes there is a bride that is a little bit more emotional on the wedding day, and it is important to console or consult whatever you need to do with the client to make sure that they remain calm on the wedding day.

Get hair savvy
Don't know what hairstyle you want? Some experimentation is in order. Try curls, straightening, braids or updos -- not to mention hair products. Keep in mind any veils or hair accessories you plan on wearing. Make sure your hairstyle complements rather than competes with the accessory.
