View TranscriptHi, I'm Tom Davis. I'm a master stonemason. When choosing a stone for the edifice of a building, one may choose to harmonize with nature in choosing a local stone that might be present on the lot, might be present in the community, or in the general geographic locales. Or, one may choose an exotic stone to accentuate the exterior of the building. By exotic stone, we speak of stone that isn't local; stone that is more than 100 miles removed from the present building site. Exotic stone can catch the eye, draw the viewer into the edifice of the building, and create an eye-catching display of stone generally not seen in the locale. One may choose a local stone to harmonize with nature, to blend with the landscape and the flow of the lot. When designing an exterior or interior space of a building, small areas of stone accent can be very effective and very affordable. Stone can be used as door surrounds, window surrounds; it can be used in porches; it can be used in columns; it can be used in panels; on the edifice of a building. It can be used anywhere where one wants to accentuate the durability and presence of a building material.
