Unfortunately this is not the same quality YMCA that I went to for swim lessons as a kid. We've signed up for several group lessons for my 5 year old son, and lately they would switch instructors part way through so there was no consistency from class to class. We then switched to semi private lessons hoping to get better attention from the instructors but setting the lessons up each time was a nightmare. Every new session we wanted to start was a mess of paperwork, phone calls that were never returned and a waste of our monthly membership fees.

After waiting three weeks for a follow up from our lesson request, the only time I received a call back from the director was after I called to cancel my membership. Buyer beware-you can sign your kids up for semi private and private lessons through the Rec Plex as a non member for less money than you pay at the YMCA for member lesson pricing. And they at least return phone calls. I always hesitate to leave a negative review but this one is very warranted.

My kids love YMCA Hastings Lake summer camp!

Summer Day CampAfter a few years of boredom from other summer camps my children attended, we decided to start using YMCA Hastings Lake camp this year. My girls, ages 6 and 9 love it! Yes, children are responsibile for bringing their own lunch and the bulk of the time is spent outdoors. That's why it is called CAMP! The benefits far outweigh any of the disadvantages. You have a choice of traditional, sport, or specialty camp and can enroll on a week by week basis. Every week my kids have a different type of camp theme (i.e. ceramics camp, space camp, soccer camp, equestrian camp, etc.). They love the variety and each week has been enriching and fun. They swim at least 4 days a week and get lots of physical activity. My kids have learned a lot of fun games and songs in just the few short weeks they've been with the camp. As for the counselors, my kids constantly talk about them and I can tell that they truly admire them.
