Universal Homes of Kentucky is all about providing Tomorrow’s Homes Today: homes that are affordable with a great value, energy efficient (Energy Star Rated), environmentally responsible (Green Build Emphasis), and designs welcoming to all (Universal Design); homes with features that will continue to delight their owners long after closing day.

Universal Homes of Kentucky is a Limited Liability Corporation formed in 2009 in honor of a loved one who was confined to a wheelchair in the final months of her life.  She was unable to access or move about independently in her home.  From this, the passion and vision for Universal Homes of Kentucky was born --- belief that people should be better prepared to handle adversities and have options when life changes occur.  The need for a different residential building model became clear – one that would provide accessibility, comfort and affordability for people at as many different stages of life as possible.  Working with architects, occupational therapists and Energy Star professionals, we developed this concept to create homes that are both functional and beautiful.

Universal Design utilizes common-sense features that can make your home a more pleasant place to live right now, and avoid unnecessary hassles and expensive changes in the future.

Universal design uses simple, proven ideas to make any home more comfortable for a wide range of people: Families with young children; People who want to stay in their homes as they grow older; People who due to accident or infirmity struggle with daily routine tasks; People who want to simplify their housekeeping;  People who are taller or shorter than average; People who use wheelchairs or walkers; People who want to increase safety and eliminate common causes of home accidents.

Some of the more common universal design features are the following: One zero-step entry at the front, rear, side or garage; Wide doorways and Hallways that are 36 – 42 inches wide make it easier for everyone and everything to move from room to room; Floors and bathtubs with non-slip tile surfaces are safer and help everyone stay on their feet.
