It's kinda blah...

I guess I was spoiled with my first shelter experience. I adopted my (then: 8 wks, now: 4 yrs) dog from the Hawaiian Humane Society & it was a totally different experience. The dog area was outdoors & open, but it was also covered up, so there was no stench but the animals were still protected from the elements. They had nice little cots for the dogs to sleep on. They had several fenced in yards so you could interact with the dog in an open but secure location, and you could bring pets you already own to interact with the potential adoptee as well. The cat house had giant rooms, no cages, and lots of sitting space for you to play with them & see how they interact, and also non-stinky. Hand sanitizer THROUGHOUT the facility. There was also an attached dog park for you to bring the dogs you already own, with benches, water fountains, spiggots with bowls underneath to water your dogs, doggie doo bags & trash cans throughout. The staff was super friendly & extremely knowledgeable, and you could tell they spent alot of personal time with all the animals there. And every animal there came spayed/neutered, microchipped & up-to-date on all vaccines & flea/tick/heartworm medication.

This Leesville place is exactly the opposite. Cats in cages in a very smelly room, dogs in a hot & smelly shed-type structure. No real way to interact except through cages. No hand sanitizer, no dog park, unfriendly staff that know nothing personal about the animals. The animals are not fixed, chipped, vaccinated...NOTHING. Very disappointing experience.
