Dr. Kheti bring a compassionate and holistic approach to his Pulmonology practice, where he specializes in asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder, sarcoidosis and lung nodules. He also practices as a critical care physician at the Medical Center. What is your patient care philosophy? I believe in the "mother standard." I treat everyone as if they were my family member. What would you like people to know about you as a physician? That no matter what, their health and well-being are mynumber onepriorities. Why did you decide to become a physician? I did volunteer work in a hospital when I was in high school and I truly admired the doctors and medical staff who worked there. I saw the happiness they brought to patients and their families. At that time, I decided to pursue a career in medicine. What do you enjoy most about working with patients? I enjoy their life stories the most. When did you know you wanted to be a doctor? I knew I wanted to be a doctor when I was in high school, around the age of 17. How does your work improve lives? I feel like I try to approach every patient not just from a disease standpoint but also social, mental, psychological one. I feel that this shows patients that they have someone who genuinely has their health as a toppriority. I try and take every aspect of their lives into account when coming up with a treatment plan. I think this gives patients a sense of comfort and ease. This allows them to have trust and follow through with plans outlined during their visits and, in turn, live a healthier lifestyle. What are some interesting facts about you? I won the first ever poker tournament held at Rutgers University. Tell us about your family. I have a small but amazing family. I am currently married to my beautiful wife, Disha Narula, who is also a physician. My brother and mother live in Upstate New York. What childhood memory do you have about visiting the doctor? I remember breaking my collarbone as a child and how comforting my doctor was at the time. The situation was very terrifying, and he made me feel at ease.
