We had been to several vets for our Cocker Spaniel's infected ears and chest rash. We got ear drops tat didn't really cure the fungus. The chest rash was just shrugged at. Cortisone shots were given to stop the itch. When we got to Doc Widener, he ran some blood tests and found him to be hyperthyroid and he put him on thyroid medication which cleared up the rash almost immediately. The cream that he prescribed for ears kept the fungus at bay. Shiimsa lived to be 14.5 years old.

We have a new dog, a miniature dachshund, who will be Mike's newest patient. I wouldn't take her anywhere else. Larry the cat even like him.

My wife and I have a bratty little, incredibly intelligent ten year-old miniature pinscher, Eddie "Bananas" Bocelli, that we took to Dr. Widener for a few issues, mainly for a dental exam (his teeth and gums were judged to be in great condition); an occasional cough, which was diagnosed as a result of having a small, irritated trachea, common in small dogs. The prescribed treatment was to put him on a diet to decrease his weight by 2lbs (from his 10lbs.) and to replace his collar with a harness, both of which were successful, such that he no longer coughs.

My wife and I are academicians in medically related areas. After going through many veterinarians' reviews, I selected Dr. Widener for his much deeper academic and research background and experience that indicated to me that he is dedicated and passionate about caring for animals.

Eddie has never liked other people, nor would he allow anyone else touch him. He refuses to take food from others, which is good. He hates all other creatures, including dogs. He is an elite rodent and weasel killer. It is my theory that he is basically feral, that my wife and I are his pack, which is one of the main reasons I chose Dr. Widener. My wife and I, after Eddie's exam, couldn't stop talking about how truly amazed we were that he actually liked Dr. Widener, that it was magical. Throughout his appointment, Eddie had a big smile and was happy, that he wasn't in any hurry to leave. It appeared that Eddie could sense that Dr. Widener respected and cared about him. I wish we could stop by with Eddie, just so Eddie could pay a social visit to another human he likes!

Eddie is such a little treasure to us, so intelligent, focused, energetic, and funny. Every moment with him gives us so much pleasure. We couldn't be more pleased with Dr. Widener and the Farmhouse. He spent a lot of time examining Eddie, far more than any other veterinarian; thus, we are giving him five extra stars--10 stars!

"Puddy" has a problem!

"Puddy" is a wonderful orange tabby cat that was just a little too adventurous! He disappeared for two weeks and his owner got the call from the local animal shelter. "Puddy" had been found with a broken right front leg. I (who was the caregiver) took him to Dr. Wagner immediately who told me that his broken leg had started to heal and that it had to be re-broken so that it could set (a difficult and long surgery) for a kitty. Soon after "Puddy" was being his normal self again (even with his cast on), looking for another adventure. Dr. Wagner took execellent of "Puddy" and has treated many of kitty "darlins" (especially the feral kitties!)

Compassionate toward animals--respectful to owners

I have spent tens of thousands of dollars on my three dogs in the last 14 years. I've experienced numerous doctors, and the most distressing aspect of vet care has been how the clinic staff has treated me. Unlike the typical treatment I've received, Dr. Weidner returns calls PERSONALLY on the SAME day. He LISTENS when I describe the symptoms of my pet (rather than make treatment decisions before I finish talking). He takes the time to thoroughly examine my dogs (or whatever other critter I drag in--once a porcupine) and he thoroughly discusses ALL options of treatment with me. He gives me all the information and suggestions I need to make the wisest, most cost effective decision for my pets base on my own personal finances, beliefs, desires, and needs. Although I've gone to other, more modern clinics with numerous veterinarians (well trained I'm sure), I have not found a doctor with the incredible medical instinct, experience, compassion, and understanding as Dr. Weidner.Thank you!

Farmhouse Veterinary Hospital saved my cats life.

I must tell everyone, who is looking for that special Dr. for their pets. My cat Star was attacked and recieved injuries that should have killed her. She had two hernias that the first Dr. I took her to said it would cost $3000 to fix with little chance to survive the surgery. I decided to take her to Dr. Widener at Farmhouse hospital. He did emergency surgery and charged me only $800. over one year later and my cat Star is doing great. Life without Star would be hard, but thanks to Dr. Widener Star is here with us today. I trust this Dr. and would recomend him to everyone, and he loves the animals.

Dr. Widener - GREAT VET

Dr. Widener is treating my animals for years and I'm really happy. He's going out of his way to help my pets. I'm really glad I met him through a referral. The best thing he is really honest. He doesn't run expensive tests, if they are not needed. I can highly recommend him.

THIS IS THE MOST WONDERFUL BEST VET IN OLYMPIA - EVER-!!! The man is caring, sensitive, intelligent, thoughtful, with great prices. He is the James Herriot of vets!!! He never turns anyone away and works with charities for those who cannot afford his services. When I saw the "heat stroke review" I decided to asked about it. Turns out two people showed up after closing when everyone was gone except the doctor. They kept pounding on the locked door until the doctor came out to their truck. After diagosing heat stroke and saying there would be an emergency fee, he asked them to bring the dog inside for treatment but shockingly those idiots only wanted to know if their dog would "live long enough so they could go to their regular vet" - unbelievable! THIS IS THE BEST DOCTOR IN TOWN! I STRONGLY RECOMMEND this practice to everyone!!!

WORST VET EVER!

WORST VET I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED! Took my dog there in the middle of a heat stroke, and the vet didnt even want to leave the office to come out and look at her because they had closed at 5pm. Went there because it was the closest to my house, and my vet was further out. I told him she had quit breathing, he said yea she almost died. Was more concerned with the fact they were closed, and money for a deposit for them to even begin to treat her. Money shouldnt have been the issue, it should have been the dog that was actually gasping for air that he was standing there looking at. We had the money to pay for her care, but I guess it was the way we looked. We were treated so badly, he was so insensitive, and uncaring I was actually shocked. I will never go there again, not even in an emergency.THIS GUY SHOULD NOT BE A VET. Thank God for the staff at South Bay, they sent 5 guys running for the door the second we got there, and if it wasnt for them, my dog would have died

Affordable, caring and down to earth

I took my black lab, Colt to see him when he was vomiting and having diarhea for several day after eating a spicy burrito. Wonderful, gentle and caring. What I really appreciated was how down to earth him and his establishment is.

unproffessional and dangerous

almost killed my cat. should have sedated her but instead rough-handled her to get X-rays, resulting in a broken rib. my poor cas was lying gasping for breath with her tongue hanging out when we left. we brought her in just breathing a little heavy. found out at another vet my cat should have been sedated. also tried to send us out of town for services available in town, while dishonestly telling us there was no place to get those services here in town. found out services available in several locations nearby. still do not understand why she was trying to get us to make a 2-3 hour one way trip washington to get tests the vet down the street offers. beware of this vet.
