Huge disappointment

This place is a total joke. I just left there and the way I was treated was deplorable. There was a gal there who was more or less a bully to many of us and her behavior was completely ignored. Everything felt very disorganized from the moment I walked in the door. My friend went there about a year ago and had a more positive experience than I did but all the staff has changed and I heard there's new management or something. Not sure if that's the case or not but it's a disaster there. What a shame. I was excited to be going to a 12 step based agency but I regret closing this place. I was someone who was eager to learn about my disease but instead I felt I got baby sat by a bunch of people. And we got "awarded" free time which some people dug but I didn't. I wanted to get all I could from the program but all I got was a stupid coin. If I want to watch movies I would have stayed home. My life was chaotic before I there but I honestly feel that place was chaotic. I've never been more disappointed to have spent money on something that was supposed to help me. Find somewhere else to go and spend your money on people who are willing to help you and actually know the 12 steps and practice the principals ghe selves instead of allowing the patients to bully others.

Don't Go There

My insurance paid a lot of money for me to go there, I think that is a shame. There has got to be a better program or method somewhere. The program is haphazard and the "counselors" are either burned out or really inexperienced. Suddenly you will find a addiction learning session canceled and you will end up watching "The Time Travelers Wife" whether you want to or think it is useful. In the "sessions" conducted by different counselors, they tell repeated, useless stories and again and again make the participants introduce themselves even though they have already done so maybe twice that day and generally all know each other. I would say rather than build self esteem, they break it. If you believe that exercise benefits mental health, expect no more than walking around an office park. So many peers left the Residence prematurely because they recognized it wasn't helping them. If your doctor is strongly suggesting you go there, fight back. It's ridiculous.

Just celebrated 23 years of recovery and can't thank Res 12 enough! Was it easy? No! Did I have to work hard? Yes! but Res 12 gave me the foundation to deal with my addiction issues and the tools needed to live a healthy happy life in recovery. Thanks Residence 12!

DO NOT GO HERE

One star isn't even an acceptable rating for this place. Other residents glorify drug use. It's like a prison here- with many patients coming directly from jail. They make you clean and do chores and force you to eat extremely high calorie meals without letting you exercise. I wish I would have read the reviews before coming here. If you leave or get kicked out of the program- they will notify your insurance and make you pay out of pocket. They say they are a non-profit, but at over $12,000 a stay I highly doubt this. All of the staff are heavily overweight- clearly replacing one addiction with another. Half the staff isn't even certified- and they have no doctor on the facility. The first week I was there a nurse wasn't even present. They will also not let you have prescription medication prescribed by your doctor. In addition- it is a no sugar, no caffeine facility but they let you have over 7 smoke breaks a day. DO NOT GO HERE

Skip this and Just Go to AA

This is a coercive introduction to AA. Any diagreement with AA or with anything a staff member says (no matter how wrong -- such as you won't need antidepressants when you quit drinking) means you're still in denial. There is no dual diagnosis or psychiatric track as claimed. You are required to clean your room, bathroom, common bathroom, halls, community room, kitchen and laundry room, as well as setting up and clearing for meals. There is no housekeeping staff. They claim this is to teach structure and respobnsibility, but it's really just a way to cut costs. Exercise is forbidden, except for two monitored walks per week. Save your money and just go to AA if it appeals to you. You'll avoid being told you've failed if you don't believe everything they say.

No Family Program as Stated in Advertisment

If you are a parent of a daughter entering rehab, be careful. If daughter is unhappy with you, they offer no family support. Since having her at Residence XII. Our family has not had any contact with our daughter since 2008. Although we asked for her councelor to meet with us all and we never got a reply other than our daughter did not want us to visit.
