At the Piano Artistry Studio, students of all ages are provided with both the personalized instruction and the encouragement necessary for them to achieve their full potential. The passion for teaching and the love for music demonstrated by Frances, the primary instructor, enables her to inspire students to become more skilled pianists and musicians. About Frances: "Recognizing that many students are not hoping to become a concert pianist, I believe that my responsibility is to provide each student with the tools necessary to achieve their personal musical goals. Additionally, I believe every student should be taught in a way that is appropriate for both their skill level and their personal learning style. Sometime that means using maracas as metronomes when learning a particularly tricky rhythm in a Bach "Prelude and Fugue" or using finger-puppets in a game of "Find Middle-C" when first becoming familiar with the piano! Most of my students study a wide variety of repertoire including classical and latin music, pop, blues, and jazz. Weekly lessons also include instruction in both technique and music theory. Intermediate to advanced students can choose to supplement their weekly lesson with instruction in a particular concentration. These supplementary sessions have varied from my teaching a student how to transpose music, improvise, and play from lead-sheets so that she could play with a local band, to helping students prepare for national theory exams. All of my students are provided with a wide range of experiences that are designed to both challenge and inspire the student. This includes opportunities to participate in group performance classes, study music theory and ear-training with their peers, and perform in studio recitals. Additionally, because of my active membership in the Washington State Music Teachers Association, students are eligible to enter local, state, and national composition and performance competitions and adjudications. I am also a member of the MusicLink Foundation, an organization designed to help ensure that musically gifted lower-income individuals are still able to receive quality music instruction. Because of the Piano Artistry Studio's involvement with this organization, a limited number of children who demonstrate a natural love and/or talent for music are awarded need-based scholarships, providing them with reduced tuition fees, as well as assistance with the cost of lesson materials and any additional fees." In addition, every semester the Piano Artistry Studio awards a limited number of merit-based scholarships to students who have demonstrated an exceptional degree of dedication and commitment to their studies.
