Chartered and incorporated in 1919 as a patriotic veteran's organization, The American Legion is one of the largest veteran's service organizations in the United States. Based in Junction City, Ohio, the organization specializes in offering service to veterans, service members and communities. It has founded many programs for children and youth, including American Legion Baseball and Boys Nation. The American Legion functions through 55 departments with one operating in each of the 50 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, France, Mexico and the Philippines.
