We give thee thanks, O LORD God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come ; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned. Revelation 11: 16 New Victory was established in the late 1800s. Only a few of people can truly remember how New Victory began. There is so much history behind this church ; it is amazing to think of how it evolved into what it is today! New Victory began as a small one room schoolhouse in Jonesborough. Residents of the neighborhood saw the need for better means to educate their children and started a movement for a schoolhouse. D.D. Markwood, the school director at that time, stated that through the help of God there would be one. The schoolhouse was built and for many years it served as a place for a variety of religious denominations to hold church services in. Then in 1900, a movement was made to turn the New Victory schoolhouse into a Baptist Church. Through the uniting efforts of the people of the neighborhood, this was done. A Southern Baptist Missionary Church was finally in progress. The following Brethren were invited to act as a council for the purpose of organizing the church: Rev. A. J. Watkins, W.P. Colley, J. Wilcox, Rev. J.B. Chase, Dr. W. Smith, and H. Bayless. New Victory Baptist Church began on March 9, 1901. After the credentials for membership and the property of organizing a church were examined, the Confession of Faith and Covenant were read and recommended for New Victory's endorsement and adoption. A motion was made and through recommendation of the Council, they were adopted. We then and currently still ask membership through the Holston Baptist Association. New Victory launched with 32 members and J. H. Moore as the first pastor from 1901-1908. The first observance of the Lord's Supper at New Victory was May 12, 1901. The first offering was taken for foreign missions on this day and totaled $0.91. The first church clerk was F.N. Bacon followed by A.A. Bailey in 1903. After worshiping in the old church for many years, the membership had grown and it was evident that a larger building was needed. In 1939, the church voted "yes" to build an annex. Ralph Lloyd made a motion and gave the first donation of $100.00. Others followed and a movement for a new church across the road went underway on November 11, 1939. A building committee was appointed and the church and the community helped with the means and the building. Then in 1989, a movement began and another addition was added to New Victory. A fellowship hall, kitchen, and gymnasium were added onto the back of the church. Currently New Victory is still growing. With God's guidance, New Victory broke ground for the new Christian Life Center in June of 2007. The first service in the new building was held on Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008. The new building is beautiful and features a full size basketball court, kitchen, nursery, and 8 classrooms. The Christian Life Center is able to seat up to 600 people.
