Founded in 1954, Tropitone Furniture is based in Irvine, Calif., and is recognized throughout the casual furniture marketplace for its design leadership as well as its commitment to service and value. The company sells its products to retailers, designers and the hospitality trade under the Tropitone and Basta Sole trademarks. In addition to its headquarters and manufacturing plant in Irvine, the company operates a manufacturing facility in Sarasota, Fla. Tropitone was founded by Bert M. Baker Sr., a retired engineer from the Grand Rapids Chair Company and former engineer for Lockheed Aircraft. Tropitone pioneered the use of acrylic tabletops, wide aluminum extrusions for arm comfort and weather-resistant outdoor cushions. In addition, it was one of the first casual furniture manufacturers to use powder coating in the finishing of its frames back in 1969. The company manufactures a diverse assortment of indoor and outdoor casual furniture lines, such as patio furniture, pool furniture, market umbrellas and patio umbrellas.
