Terrible Service - Ejected Because They Were Too Busy

I recently went with a friend to Javier's for a few drinks after work. Even though we had a reservation, we were not seated until 20 min. after the reserved time. It cost us $60 for two rounds (4 total) drinks and some nachos. Even though this seemed pricy, we weren't too dissatisfied until shortly after the second round of drinks was served they started to clear our table - with us still sitting there with our nearly full drinks. Shortly thereafter, the manager came over and asked us to leave. Even though we offered to give up the table if he could find a place for us to finish our drinks at the bar, he didn't offer any accommodation whatsoever. But we hurried up and got out ASAP for fear of there being some scene if we stayed any longer.

When my friend tried to talk to the owner of Javier's a couple of days later, he was not even allowed to finish telling him what had happened to us. Instead, the owner showed no concern and actually hung up on him mid-conversation, stating that he was busy.

I don't care how good their food may be, the service at Javier's is just about the worst I have ever encountered. I have seen more concern for customers at the drive up windows of Taco Bells than I experienced at Javier's. Judging by the other reviews I have read, service seems to be a big problem at this establishment. I will never go back there, and I don't know why anyone else would want to subject themselves to such rude behavior.

Mixed Feelings

The Food is no better than an El Torito. The bar is good though. This place is always busy, but its not all that. Quality is not always consistent. Service seems minimal. Any Mexican joint leasing the space with table service would likely do just as good. My Boyfriend SWEARS by this place--I guess you love it or hate it.

I picked this restaurant because it has been my favorite Mexican Restaurant for many years and it was my birthday. My husband told me he would take me any place that I wanted to go: I picked Javier's in Irvine. Wow! What a disappointment. From the moment we walked in the door and spoke to the hostess, until the time we left, it was a very unpleasant experience. I had to ask the hostess for the manager because she was so rude. The manager was nice but I shouldn't have had to talk to him, and tell him it was my birthday, in order to get the table my husband had made reservations for. Our waiter was also very nice and actually gave us outstanding service. However, my husband substituted a Filet Mignon for the New York Steak on the Carne Tempequina dinner entree. The waiter said there would be an up charge but didn't say how much the up charge would be. Up charge? Oh my gosh! The dinner menu price for the Carne Tempequina is $25.99. They charged him $45.00 for the entree with the Filet Mignon substitute, and on top of that, he had to pay an extra $6.00 for his house salad. We felt robbed. I ordered the taco and enchilada combination for $14.00 and it was just ok. It wasn't the great taste I had remembered. Needless to say, we will not be going back to Javier's unless it is just for chips and salsa. That is one thing they do very well.

So-So

Good, but kind of boring. We went on a Sunday afternoon and there wasn't a whole lot of people there, but service was still slow. I felt kind of cramped as we were seated near the kitchen and people kept coming by us.

I split my meal, and we ordered the soft taco plate which was good but not memorable, and the stuffed quesadilla lacked enough cheese so the chicken kept falling out. Overall it was expensive for what it was, hole-in-the-wall local mexican places in LA are way better for far cheaper. It's exceedingly fancy for what it is, and apparently gets quite busy. Why? It's not worth it. Not bad, but just nothing special and nowhere I would rush back to.
