The West Virginia Department of Human Services provides a range of social services and family assistance to children and adults. It offers home- and community-based services to senior citizens. The department provides child protective services and supports a child care program that promotes healthy physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth of children by regulating programs for children up to the age of 18. The West Virginia Department of Human Services also supports an infectious disease epidemiology program that assesses the rates of infectious diseases through surveillance and develops strategies for disease prevention and control that are implemented in collaboration with local health departments. It additionally offers burial, utility and transportation assistance, refugee resettlement and foster care services. The department is a part of the government of West Virginia.
