We wanted to create a unique deck. We went back to Jim Vail who had done such an awesome job with our kitchen renovation several years ago. The deck is beautiful (not something I say very often about decks), maintenance free, and is exactly what we wanted. Jim knew what we wanted, even though we didn't hadn't figured out how to describe what we were after. The quality of Jim's work is outstanding and his crew are great. He is a real pleasure to work with. Indeed, we are now talking with him about remodeling our master bathroom.

Vail Builders provided excellent work in the finishing of our basement. We really appreciated the design influences and craftsmanship. Very happy with our end product.

(1) A few, difficult-to-find Chicago bricks near our front door had deteriorated. Meanwhile, another company informed us our chimney needed immediate work, and they gave us an estimate. For the same work Vail's chimney estimate was 25% lower than the other company’s estimate. At Jim Vail’s suggestion the Vail estimate also included taking an extra row of Chicago bricks off the chimney and using them to repair the brick on the front of our house. Thus Vail solved two problems and charged us $1000 less than the other company’s estimate for solving one problem. The work is first rate.

(2) Later in the spring Vail Builders remodeled our master bathroom. The removal of a cabinet disclosed unexpected water damage that turned a minor renovation into a complete overhaul of the bathroom. Vail Builders are great people to work with even under conditions of this sort.

From the perspective of quality, Vail Builders do amazing work. They also leave the work place neat and as clean as possible at the end of each day. Subcontractors, such as the tile people, the people who built new cabinets, the electrical and painting and plumbing people, etc. work at the same level of quality. The tiles and cabinets in particular are stunning. The job has turned out very well.

The unexpected acceleration of what needed doing went pretty smoothly. It is a big plus that Jim Vail keeps up with new products and trends. He has lots of ideas and also as a contractor has a good eye for pleasing color and design. He was helpful in keeping additional costs within bounds. These qualities and the very high quality of his work have characterized earlier projects he has done for us. We have used Vail Builders multiple times and recommend them very highly.

Excellent work! Vail remodeled two of our bathrooms at the same time...quite the project. Enjoyed the entire crew and loved watching the progress. Very service oriented and responsive to our needs. Great quality.

Vail is in the process of adding a 1150 sq ft addition to our house. The crew is incredibly skilled and friendly and the work is phenomenal. It's coming together faster than I anticipated. The truss package is huge and they put them all up like it was no big deal. I definitely recommend Vail Builders for any size project you have in mind.

Vail Builders did a mudroom makeover for us earlier this year. The result was a fabulous blend of my vision and Jim's added ideas and expertise about what would work best! His attention to detail was so impressive, and his ability to contain the "mess of remodeling" was amazing. We have received rave reviews about the new space from family and friends - we absolutely love the new space! We will definitely call Vail Builders for our next project.

Vail builders did an excellent job installing new hardware flooring and baseboard on our second level and building an office in our basement. The work was planned out well and Jim was on top of everything. He was responsive to our emails, texts and questions and was easy to work with. We have worked with 2 other contractors previously on other remodeling projects and Vail Builders is superior by far. He even fixed some of their mistakes/omissions for us. Jim is very knowledgeable and did things right. We would certainly use Vail Builders in the future.

In the past year Jim Vail refurbished our family room, removing paneling and decorative ceiling timbers and transforming the room into exactly the brighter living space we wanted. The quality of work is first rate. Jim keeps the client informed about what is going on – what is under the removed paneling, when the tapers and painters are coming, etc. (They come at those times, too.) Finally, before the work starts he is brilliant and quick at translating what the client wants into various options, which help the client figure out what he really wants and helped give us an outstanding result. He also installed a no-maintenance deck for us. Turned out his judgment about decking color was spot on, far better than mine. The deck is gorgeous, and the craftsmanship is excellent. During this past summer two unusual things happened. A leaking culvert caused a surprise cave in at part of our driveway on Friday afternoon July 3. Who to call at such a time? I called Jim Vail. He rapidly had subcontractors giving estimates for the excavation, repair, and resurfacing work, all of which was done well. A few weeks later a storm dumped a large tree on our attached garage roof. He was here patching leaking spots temporarily as soon as the tree was removed; here when the insurance adjuster came; and here again doing an excellent job repairing damage to the roof structure and the roof. The storm meant we needed to know exactly where the property lines run in our woods so we could clean up our part. Solution? Jim sent a surveyor.The family room and deck are the most recent but not the first renovations Vail has done for us. Over the years our experience is uniformly excellent. He keeps the client informed about everything. His craftsmanship is exceptional. He answers the phone Friday afternoon on July 3, too. We feel very fortunate to have found Vail Builders.

We invited Jim Vail (Vail Builders) back into our home to remodel our staircase and railings after the incredible job he and his subcontractors did on our three bathrooms in 2014. He had told us staircases are his specialty and we can see that by the beautiful outcome. They are sturdy, elegant, they don't "squeak" and have completely changed the appearance of our main level entry. We couldn't be more pleased and would definitely call him back for any future remodel needs!

We had Jim Vail (Vail Builders) remodel our master bedroom suite (bathroom, laundry room and closet). We learned about Vail Builders after a trusted neighbor highly recommended them. Jim was fabulous from the outset helping us design the changes with 3D modeling software, sending pictures back and forth over the internet. He came over and studied/measured the existing plumbing, heating and electrical so that we could design the new layout with minimum (expensive) relocations. Jim has experience with the latest plumbing, heating and electrical improvements that are on the market and helped us learn about and choose what was available and within budget.We have had bad luck in the past with contractors leaving the house a mess, so we were delighted when Jim laid down plastic on all the stairs and hallways that subcontractors would be using. Plastic walls were hung to keep dust away from the part of the master bedroom that was not being changed, and zippered plastic was used to cover the bedroom door and keep dust out of the rest of the house.Jim was very nice to work with as were the subcontractors he had coming to the house. He pays attention to the details and strives for perfection. He kept us informed of the progress throughout the project. The remodel is absolutely beautiful – better than we imagined it could be. We would hire Jim again, and will recommend him to friends and neighbors.

Outstanding contractor that takes pride in his workmanship! He trimmed all the windows in our house, installed new doors, and installed fireplace brick. We couldn't be more pleased with the results. He's very responsive and works hard to make sure the customer is completely satisfied. We will continue to use Vail Builders for all future projects.

Vail builders did an amazing job on our remodel. They were able to take a 70"s outdated home into a beautiful modern and timeless space. We couldn't be happier. Jim Vail has great ideas without being pushy. We look forward to using Vail for the next project.

My home was built in 1903 and has been modified many times over the years. It’s a challenge for any Builder to update this property - however I knew where to look. I used Vail Builders 20 years ago for an upstairs addition and was very pleased with the experience.Last year (November 2014), Vail Builders, now with Jim Vail at the helm after his father’s retirement, took on a complicated exterior remodeling project for me. It included addressing ice-dam issues, rotting trim, soffit and fascia, new siding, window replacement, exhaust fans and the list goes on.I was very comfortable and confident with Jim and his team. They met the challenge with their expertise, craftsmanship and trouble shooting skills. The most satisfying for me was Jim’s attention to detail and his willingness to accept responsibility and correct any issues.I painted the new exterior this Fall (October 2015) and again was very impressed with Vail Builder’s work.

Quality work!! That's what you get when you hire Vail Builders. We recently hired Vail Builders to remodel a bathroom in our 20 year old home. The results were stunning and we couldn’t be happier with the partnership we had with Jim!!

We built a 3 season porch and deck 5 years ago on our house in Centerville which is on a pond. With the clay soil and water level we had issues with the posts heaving from the ground freezing. I had requested several companies to come up with a fix so that we wouldn't have that issue and the only one who could come up with a solution was Vail Builders. They fixed the issue over a year ago and there hasn't been a problem since. Very professional and attentive to detail.

Purchased our home in Lino Lakes 3.5 years ago. Unknowingly purchased garage moisture issues. Jim inspected the garage and offered a specific solution that has addressed all our concerns. He worked with us to make the needed modifications in a timely cost effective fashion. We brought Jim back when we realized that the front door and stairs were a major problem for elderly visitors. Jim installed an iron handrail that provides valuable assistance and looks like it was an original part of the home. We will certainly turn to Jim for future projects

Vail Builders recently completed a total kitchen remodel, including a beautiful stair case and railing makeover with hardwood floors and we couldn't be more pleased. From the design to expert craftsmanship and professionalism, Jim delivers. We were particularly impressed with Jim's follow-up on any questions or concerns we had, he was on it, We would highly recommend Vail Builders for any upcoming projects you might have, we know we already plan on being repeat customers!

Our kitchen was way too small for entertaining but we, and several designers, were unable to come up with a way to redesign because the original floor plan was so constraining. Given the number of our neighbors who have contracted with Vail Builders, we decided to invite Jim Vail to stop by. He heard what our dreams were and he came back to us with a spectacular plan that he and his excellent team then have implemented expertly. We had waited 19 years to renovate and had developed extremely high expectations. Our new kitchen, bar, dining room, etc… redesign clearly exceeded those expectations. We will be contacting Vail Builders for all of our future projects. They are already at work on a deck for us.

While it's not true all the time, in general, "you get what you pay for". Those looking for a bargain when choosing contractors, will seldom find them the cheapest. I've seen the results of picking Home Depot & other cheaper contractors with "free" financing and I would not recommend them. Vail Builders will not offer you free financing nor will they be your cheapest bid. What Jim Vail will provide you with is, quality materials and workmanship that you will be proud to show your friends and relatives. Cheap construction that looks cheap is no bargain and there are many out there. If you want to be happy with the final results then you cannot go wrong hiring Vail Builders for your project.
