The Alabama Department of Rehabilitation strives to meet its mission, which is to enable the state s children and adults with disabilities to achieve their maximum potential. It offers a continuum of services to assist Alabamians with disabilities at home, in school and on the job. It is comprised of state and federal programs that include Alabama s Early Intervention System, a program that helps infants and toddlers with disabilities and developmental delays to prepare them and their families to the State Department of Education s preschool program; the Children s Rehabilitation Service, which provides services children with special health care needs from birth to age 21 and their families; the Vocational Rehabilitation Service, which provides rehabilitation, education and employment-related services to more than 45,700 adolescents and adults; and the State of Alabama Independent Living/Homebound Service, which provides services to Alabamians with the most severe disabilities resulting from spinal cord or head injuries through its seven SAIL teams located statewide and serving all 67 counties.
