I just want to begin by stating that I’m not one to typically leave a review for a business, but hiring Butch Hailey with B&H Pools might have been the biggest financial mistake I have made. Before the install which was in August of 2021 (was supposed to be in May) I asked Butch if a retaining wall was needed and he stated no, and since our yard was big enough he was just going to spread the dirt out and level the yard. When he started digging I told him the hole for the pool seemed high and that was exactly the case. Butch did not spread the dirt out at all, he just ran over it with his excavator and left us with hills around the pool. At the time Butch was not doing concrete decking around pools, he was contracting it out and would not tell me the name of the company he was using. I had to hire a separate company for the concrete decking install and because of the way he left my yard I had to pay $10k for a retaining wall around the pool. We only got to use the pool for a few weeks as he did not compete the install until mid September. In May of 2022 we opened the pool and by July we had a serious leak issue. The pool was losing an inch or two of water every time we ran it. There was a leak in the return fitting on the pool wall. This was not touched by any other contractor. I had to hire a leak detection company and break the concrete to get to the fitting. I had a different pool company make the repair as Butch didn’t want to own up to the bad plumbing job. I have contacted Butch to try and get reimbursed as his pools are supposed to come with a year warranty. He has not responded to me. He states that he has been doing this for 30 years but there were so many issues with our build in St. Louis county and he didn’t seem to know any of the rules. I did not want to make this review but Butch is not taking ownership for his bad work and is not answering my calls in regard to the leak. If you are looking to build a pool I would not recommend you hire Butch.
