Provided by YP.comTook my kids to the Great Outdoors and had a great meal. The service was excellent and you can't beat their house salad with the candied walnuts. We all loved our meals. I have never had a bad meal or bad service all the times I have been there. We take all of our visiting relatives there.

Provided by YPmobileThis restaurant was such a treasure to find in the lovey lil down town of High Springs, Fl. It had wonder pecky cypress beams, Tiffany sconce lighting at the booths, authentic sapling chairs, real wood kayaks suspended from the ceiling, a big fireplace, beautiful artwork of local springs... All in all the decor and ambience was lovely. The pork medallions with country cheese grits were excellent so was my husbands hook, line and sinker catfish dinner. The fresh bread and honey butter added to the meal along with a crisp meditarenean salad. All in all a nice romantic place to dine in a quant little town we passed through in North central Florida.

Provided by YP.comGreat Restarauant - The food and ambiance our tops, esp for a small town. Service can be a little slow when thay are busy on weeekend nights. Good live music - although rumor has it new local gov't may be putting a halt to it with a new noise ordinance.

Provided by YP.comWarning! My husband and I were diagnosed with salmonella poisoning last week after eating at the Great Outdoors Restaurant in High Springs. A couple we were travelling with became ill also. My husband and I shared the Chicken Oskar and our friends had the Chicken Asparagus. About 12 hours after dinner, we all came down with diarrhea, fever, and severe abdominal cramps. I had a To-Go box with our leftovers, and the lab results tested positive for salmonella contamination. The restaurant denies any problems, but the lab proves otherwise. Stay away from this place!

Provided by YP.comWe visited Great Outdoors this weekend. We had visited 2 years prior. The Menu and food had definitely improved. They had also added on to the outside Dining/Bar area. It is a beautiful place.....the weather was cool and we started outside by the Firepit with the band playing. This place is always busy......despite this, our wait for a table wasn't too bad. Our server was extremely busy but we felt did quite well under the circumstances. The food again had improved, the Menu was more focused and the food was served in a timely manner. Great Experience at Great Outdoors!

Provided by YP.comThe food is often fantastic, but occasionally unremarkable. The service is sometimes great, but more often the servers are somewhat obtuse. While having lunch with a friend, I don't want the waiter or waitress standing at the table and carrying on a conversation with us while we're trying to eat. It's obnoxious. I'm sure they were told to be friendly, but that doesn't mean hover. If the servers would stop this annoying behavior, I would upgrade my comments to "super service". The chef also needs to decide how to make the dishes, because very often the salads and meals are completely different from the last time we had them.
The atmosphere and ambiance of the restaurant, however, more than makes up for the shortcomings. And the live music on the weekends, after a few drinks, more than makes up for the strange server behavior. Overall, The Great Outdoors is a good dining experience, just don't expect high class servers.
