Patient Advocate Foundation is a national nonprofit organization that safeguards patients through effective mediation by providing access to care, maintenance of employment and preservation of their financial stability. Its patient congress program educates people on health care topics. Its other program, National Legal Symposium, provides a forum for attorneys to discuss the legal aspects of health care litigation. A Promise of Hope Affair is an annual fundraising event that supports its direct patient services. It annually awards 10 students through its program, Scholarships for Survivors. It African American Outreach program targets high-risk health areas, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, kidney failure and stroke.
