Lubbock, TX
Located in one of the most agriculturally fertile regions of Texas, Lubbock has a population of nearly 215,000, and is known as the "Hub City" for its numerous contributions to the regional economy and culture. Several award-winning wineries, numerous boutiques, a championship golf course, and the presence of Texas Tech University make Lubbock one of the largest and liveliest cities in the South Plains area.
NEIGHBORHOODS AND DISTRICTS
Lubbock is primarily divided into four quadrants: Northeast, Southeast, Northwest, and Southwest. Noteworthy Lubbock neighborhoods include:
- Central Business District is the historic commercial and cultural center of Lubbock.
- The Parkway and Cherry Point neighborhoods offer affordable ranch-style homes.
- Southeast Lubbock, which lies south of the Central Business District, is the heart of the Lubbock residential area, known for its many ranch-style homes.
- Southwest Lubbock has been the site of most recent residential and commercial development.
- The Bowie and West End neighborhoods offer affordable single-family homes in the West 19th Street area.
- Regal Park features expansive lots and large two-story homes.
- Monterey and Lakewood feature two- and three-bedroom starter homes.
- Northwest Lubbock is dominated by the campus of Texas Tech University and the University Medical Center. The area west of campus remains largely undeveloped, with the Northridge gated community being the largest development in the area.
- The Arnett Benson neighborhood is home to many of Lubbock's Latino residents. The recently constructed Lubbock Heart Hospital has sparked a large amount of residential construction in surrounding areas, primarily apartment complexes.

Lubbock is at the center of the largest cotton growing area in the U.S., and much of the local economy is fueled by the cotton industry. Other major industries in the area are education and health care.

EVENTS
The Lubbock Symphony Orchestra and the Lubbock Ballet perform regularly at the Civic Center. Annual festivals in Lubbock include:
- The National Cowboy Symposiumand Celebration is held in September and features art, music, poetry, stories, and scholarly presentations on cowboy culture.
- The 4th on Broadway Festival is the largest free festival in Texas, with over 175,000 participants per year. This festival celebrates Independence Day with a parade, street fair, the Early Settlers' Luncheon, and an evening of music and fireworks.
- The Lubbock Arts Festival is held in April at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.

Most of Lubbock is served by the Lubbock Independent School District.

- The Lubbock Renegades were an arena football team in the AF2, a developmental league of the Arena Football League. The Renegades played two years in Lubbock before ceasing operations in 2008.
