Camarillo is unique in that Highway 101 (known to Southern Californians as the Ventura Freeway) runs directly through the middle of Old Town, thanks to the efforts of the local Chamber of Commerce in the 1950's. Another major roadway, Highway 34, intersects with 101 nearby, providing access to the northeastern and southern residential areas of town. This intersection serves as a kind of transportation hub for the city, as the Amtrak and Metrolink stations are located there as well.
The Camarillo Airport, southwest of the city, serves as a "reliever" airport for the often overcrowded LAX, and also offers a number of services, such as aviation training and charter flights, and houses a business park on its southern end.
Visitors can take advantage of the Camarillo Premium Outlets, home to more than 100 retail shops. With bargains galore on designer clothing, shoes, jewelry, housewares and specialty items, it is one of the busiest shopping areas in the Los Angeles area.
