Louisiana Press Association's mission is to unite Louisiana newspapers as a cooperative association which creates and fosters an economic, political, and legal environment where newspapers can compete and flourish as providers of information and information services. Louisiana Press Association is the official trade organization for Louisiana newspapers and provides representation in the legislature and educational services. The association acts as an information clearinghouse. It promotes newspaper advertising through its one order, one bill service. Louisiana Press Association was first formed in 1880 as a trade association uniting the state's daily and weekly newspapers. LPA serves Louisiana newspapers statewide. LPA benefits from the untiring support of over 119 daily and weekly newspaper members. The office is located near the Mississippi River in Baton Rouge. From here, the professional staff of 8 directs a host of projects including training seminars, conventions, better newspaper contests, and advertising sales. The active member newspapers are the shareholders in the corporation. Officers are elected annually. Eighteen persons serve on the board of directors. Active: A newspaper of general interest with paid subscriptions. The newspaper must be published for 2 years to be eligible for membership.
