I waited an hour and a half for my appointment for a regular cleaning because their receptionist purposely tells you your appointment is earlier than it is. She fails to inform patients that she's done so in order for them to fill out paperwork. Since I knew there would likely be paperwork at my first appointment, I arrived 20 minutes earlier than the appointment time I was told. I had to work that day and was legitimately worried I'd be late as I watched other patients walk through the door and immediately get called back as I sat there for an hour and a half.

The dental hygienist was great and I had no problems with her. The dentist came in and recommended I get some fillings done where my gumline was receded a bit to help me out with tooth sensitivity. I went ahead with it and scheduled another appointment to have that work done.

Unfortunately, everything went downhill at that point. The dentist and the assistant talked about a concert the entire time he worked on my teeth as if I wasn't there. At one point while he was roughing up my teeth with the grinder for the bonding material to stick to, he hit something that was incredibly painful and made me jump.

A couple of weeks after the fillings were done, I developed horrible pain at the site of one of my fillings that woke me up. I called and the receptionist said, "The dentist must have hit a nerve and you likely need a root canal, but your insurance won't cover it because you've exhausted your benefits for the year with the fillings, so you'll have to pay out-of-pocket for that." This obviously upset me because she even admitted it was their fault and they were still going to make me pay for it. She scheduled me in to see the dentist for a follow-up and he gave me a paste to put on my teeth to see if that would help. The pain began to dissipate, but around 5 weeks after the procedure, I began developing random numbness lasting a few hours at a time in my lower jaw and chin on the side where the fillings were done. I put up with it figuring they must have messed up a nerve and "it is what it is" because I can't afford to pay for a root canal and I'd really rather not have one. Then as I was swishing Listerine last night, one of the fillings fell out. I haven't even had the fillings 2 months, so I called up the office this morning and the receptionist told me "There must have been more tooth decay than they had thought." and informed me the appointment to assess the situation would cost a little over $100. I explained there was no tooth decay and that I'd just had fillings put in where my gums had receded to help out with cold sensitivity. She said she didn't know and couldn't tell me anything more until they do the assessment.

I shouldn't be charged for something that was obviously their error. If I'm going to have to pay out-of-pocket to have the filling replaced, I'd rather go to someone who knows what they're doing so I'm not throwing more money down the drain in another 2 months.
