When Rachel Carson told the world that pollution was imperiling life on Earth, many listened, few did anything about it. With the passage of fifty years, thousands of books have touted the dangers of Man's scientific successes, including Thomas Friedman's 'Hot, Flat, and Crowded,' which insists that we can save the world, but only by following his mandates on energy production. None of these books has made much of the principal polluter, the car. Very little is being done (or has been done) to rein in the damage transportation inflicts on us, and our world. But a simple change in moving us about could do more to save us than all the other changes being talked about. 'Another Way To Get There' explains how. Although not how to persuade General Motors to begin building the AMCARS of the new system.
