Mediation can be successful in producing long term agreements, even for people whose relationships have been damaged and/or ended by anger and difficult histories. Mediation is useful for most divorcing couples prior to the expense and stress of hiring attorneys. (Consulting with attorneys is encouraged after the mediation process has begun.) Post divorce and paternity issues, including custody or child support modification are also appropriate for mediation. Mediation is also ideal for making elder care decisions, such as health care, living assistance or driving restrictions.
