First time using H&R Block, because we had a more difficult return than usual due to life changes. These people all looked to be retirees with minimal computer skills. They will NOT discuss fees with you up front, so you have no idea what your end bill will be. Our accountant was very nice and helpful, though, so we felt it was worth it. A little over an hour of work (which probably would have taken someone with good computer skills half the time), and the cost was $450. Absolutely outrageous. We walked out vowing to never come back.
They sent me an online survey, which I filled out with 4's on a 1-5 scale. This would mean very good, but not "fantastic", which I thought was more than generous considering. Today I got a call from the manager, rude and borderline harassing, because I did not give the accountant perfect 5's. If you do not give them 5's, they count it the same as 0, according to her. I told her that was interesting math coming from a group of accountants. She told me my concerns about the price should not have been factored when rating the accountant herself. I told her that 1) I gave her 4's, which I thought was accurate and perfectly acceptable, 2) that anyone with better computer skills could have done it faster, thereby saving us money. She then told me that she would be calling her supervisor and explaining that my lack of perfect rating was based upon my frustration with the cost, not about the accountant herself. Um, NO. Now you are LYING.
Fast forward one month, we ended up getting $600 less on our return and had to pay the fee for that, because our accountant completely screwed up my husband's state returns (since he had to file in two states)....which was the issue we went to them for in the first place. COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY!!!!!
