We hired Mr. Tullis on LinkedIn back in April 2017 for our Personal Income Joint Tax Return which includes a tiny LLC/sole proprietorship.
He operates from a virtual office it was hard to reach him with a phone or direct email at first, we had to communicate via built-in message board on LinkedIn and his online calendar app for scheduling a phone consultation then I had to wait another day or two to hear from him.
We uploaded all required documents from 3 employers and 3 states (NJ, NY, CT) and we put detailed notes and answers for all those documents and questions
He missed the filing deadline without informing us in his initial proposal at LinkedIn and he explained that he had many other pending clients to take care of first, so he filed an extension for us.
When he sent us the draft returns for 2 states out of 3 I noticed that he didn't include my wife's 2nd W2 and our total income was less than it should be, I reminded him to fix it and he did. 3rd state return(NY) was missing and he said it's going to take some time for him to prepare NY state return.
We took our time for signing 2 returns we had, waiting for NY return but eventually we signed. And it took several weeks until we received the 3rd return and after a couple of months we signed it in August. I received a delinquency notice from NJ State Revenue for not filing sales & use tax returns past 3 quarters, facing $5,553 in penalties. Even though I had uploaded the original notice regarding to sales & use tax of my LLC back in April with all other tax related documents and asked about it with an additional note, Mr. Tullis hadn't replied my note back then nor asked anything. He charged us $553 for clarifying the issue with NJ State and collection agency, I found it high and asked him to revise his bill, which he didn't. He simply said that "it was not part of our engagement letter" and I offered that I'm willing to pay half of the bill but then he said he'd take us to court. We paid the full amount and stopped working with him. Bad experience overall.
