I purchased a Certified 2015 Sonata from the Elgin Hyundai dealership 2 weeks ago. There are 2 reasons for the bad review - both pre-sale and post-sale.
1) Pre-sale:
I was only considering certified vehicles, not regular used. I picked the car that I liked in the "Pre-Certified" category of their website, so I went to the dealership knowing specifically what I want to see and its price. When discussing numbers with the sales person (Mitch) and the sales manager (Jim Urso), they tried to charge me almost $2000 for certification (I've seen other reviews mention this too), even though the car was already pre-certified so all of those costs were already included in the posted asking price.

2) Post-sale:
This car had many serious scratches. I bought the car only because Jim Urso (Sales Manager) agreed to fix those scratches. He made it clear that this would be done by spray painting them with matching paint and would be done by a professional painting company.

I bought the car and brought it back when they told me to (several days later) to get the scratches fixed. I left the car there. The following day they called and said that everything was done so I came back to pick up the car. It was dark already so I got to inspect the work only 10 minutes later when I stopped by a well lit gas station. The scratches were clearly not spray painted but a very poor touchup job with a paint pen was done. Also new scratches appeared which the car clearly sustained while being in service there. I called Jim and he asked for 30 minutes to figure things out. Promised to call back and never did for a full week, even after I left a follow-up voice message.
After a week, I sent him a detailed e-mail which he responded to with a call very quickly. But during this call he denied that he promised to fix scratches by spray painting them, said that they did their best with the touchup and offered to redo it (that really wouldn't change anything so I didn't agree to it).

BAD PEOPLE TO DO BUSINESS WITH !!!! My daughter purchased a vehicle from this dealership about 2 weeks ago. Due to her not having any established credit she was approved with a $1000.00 down payment and a 2002 Hyundai sonata trade - in, at a finance rate of 16% interest with a payment of $276.00 monthly which she agreed to. Now my daughter was called a few days ago, asking her to come back in because there was a mistake made on her paperwork, and she needed to resign all of her documents. The sales manager JIM URSO was rude and turned her away the 1st time she attempted to resign the paperwork because it was on a Saturday and they were too busy with other potential victims/customers to see her. She returned on yesterday 3-17-15 and now she's being told that her interest rate will not be the original 16% that was agreed on, but 19% instead. Supposedly her payments will only increase $10.00 monthly which I find very hard to believe because the purchase price of the vehicle is only being reduced by $500.00. But the icing on this multi-layered cake came when my daughter tried to take back her original trade-in, so that she could walk away from this BAD DEAL! Her car that ran fine when she left it at the dealer just 2 weeks ago won't start and was told by an dealership employee that she needs a new starter !!!!

***Buyer Beware*** Spot Delivery Scams

***BUYER BEWARE*** This dealership practices a common scam know as the "Spot Delivery Scam." This scam was done to us by the financing manager - Casey, and Jimmy in the finance department. These 2 people "approved" us on a used car loan. We signed the loan and left with the car. Then 1 month later they called us demanding that we bring the car back within 1 hour or they were calling the police. They stated that the pay information on the loan did not match the pay stubs. At this point we found out that Jimmy had lied on the application to get us "approved." At this point I had already put $400 into the car we thought we owned for things like new tires as well as aftermarket upgrades. They wanted us to return the car, and then they were going to sell us an older vehicle for the same price with the same monthly payments. This means that we would be forced to pay higher interest for a vehicle we did not want. Unfortunately, they locked us into dealing with them by taking our trade in and cashing our down payment. We then visited a credit union and was able to get approved for the car we thought we already owned at 4% interest as opposed to the original rate of 18%. Beware of these scams, they prey on people with bad or no credit knowing that you will be forced to settle on something you don't really want. Jimmy was very dishonest, and Casey is a compulsive liar. Casey will try to be your friend and make you think he's helping you out when in actuality they are not there to help. Every time we entered the dealership we would find Casey saying horrible things about previous customers to other employees. The last time we entered the dealership Casey informed us that he walked out earlier because he was tired of Jimmy as well as other employees making bad financing deals with other customers. Casey had openly admitted that Jimmy and others were constantly messing up loans for customers. So BUYER BEWARE- this dealership does practices these scams. If you are purchasing a used vehicle from this dealer, make sure you get your own loan first.
