Recently I was walking with my daughters behind the MAC when Upstage Theatre was having a rehearsal. My daughters are 3. They were chattering to each other like children do. They were walking along the upper edge of the Mitch park amphitheater and hopping around. They were not screaming or yelling. They were not misbehaving. A young lady came over from the small group who were rehearsing and was shushing my children and telling them to be quiet and told them they were being distracting to rehearsal! Obviously she didn't understand how rude she was being to us. I'm pretty sure they were rehearsing in a PUBLIC recreational area that's open to anyone. We didn't barge into a closed rehearsal in an indoors theater. We were no closer than 40-50 feet from the stage. The entirety of our presence in the amphitheater area was 90 secs. And we walk through the area regularly some evenings. I'm glad my children didn't understand that this young lady was being rude to us. Get over yourself!

I cannot comment on the quality of the company. However, I can comment on the driving courtesy of Jenny in their white SUV on 10/24/2015. Another woman and I were getting ready to enter the crosswalk at Hobby Lobby on Danforth Road at 2:10 PM. She came speeding through the crosswalk and waved. Since she was in a company vehicle, I called Upstage - Jenny answered and verified she was the driver. I was told that if I would have stepped out, she would have stopped. She was going too fast to stop. She gave a very sarcastic apology and said " I didn't hit you". Wow, wow, wow. She then said that this was ridiculous and she was not wasting any more time. She then disconnected my call. Jenny talked over me and made excuses. Please slow down. The next person in the crosswalk may be inattentive and step in front of you. Maybe then you will offer a heartfelt apology.

Not worth your time and money. Unprofessional environment. Your child may not be one of the 'favored' kids and that is very heartbreaking for a parent to watch.

Great place to learn & perform

Both of my acting daughters have had the privilege of working with the staff & owners of this great theatre . Since the first audition we went on there I have felt they have been professional & upbeat. Always offering an encouraging word & helping to sharpen my daughters acting skills. I would recommend this studio for anyone wanting to do theatre . My daughters look forward to their time spent there !

My daughter met the owner of the studio when they were in a community theatre production together. Since that time she has taken voice at the studio, participated in production classes & performed in both in-house productions as well as community theatre productions. She has also had two birthday parties at the studio. My daughter has always been treated as a part of the studio family and has shown tremendous growth as a singer and actor. The owners and staff are also working professionals in the theatre community and can provide great insight into "what it takes" to be a stage performer. I would recommend UpStage Theatre & Performing Arts Center to anyone who is interested in musical theatre whether they are just a beginner or are a seasoned performer.

When I first joined upstage, they welcomed me with open arms and I instantly felt like I was apart of this awesome family. Jenny, Brett, and Patrick do a great job of teaching and spreading the love of music theatre. They provide great opportunities for kids and teens with there production classes during the year and amazing outdoor shows for all ages during the summer! They also offer voice, dance and acting classes. It's a great environment for kids and families and I highly recommend it for everyone!

What an amazing place! My daughter has been going to Upstage Theatre for 3 years now! I couldn't keep her a way if I tried. The owners and staff are wonderful mentors and leaders. It is completely enjoyable watching the hard work that the children put in to their performances. The feedback that the children get back after each performance and audition is not only constructive but very motivational. If you have a child interested in joining theatre then I highly recommend this place 120%.

Upstage

Upstage Theatre is such a great place for everyone from small kids, to teens, to adults. Once you're there, you have a family bond that no other place could replace. Jenny and Brett do an amazing job with everything they do, and not to mention Patrick Towne who does above and beyond for all the students. They're birthday parties are top notch and the kids always have so much fun, I don't know how anyone could possibly say anything bad about it!

This theater company is run co...

This theater company is run completely backwards. I've never observed such an awful environment to be around. The couple in charge are rude, quick-tempered, and don't take any responsibility for the things they should be responsible for. I know several people who have worked for this company and 9 out of 10 of them will never work here ever again because of the unprofessionalism. Please take note that all of the positive comments left on here are from people who either work at or have worked at this company. However, all of the negative are from parents who have had their children in classes/productions at this theater. I don't enjoy people being rude for the sake of being rude, and that is all that the people in charge do every day. I would never choose to send my child to them after hearing all of the bad news from the people I've talked to who have worked with them.

Upstage is a wonderful environment to put not just children, but teens and young adults in as well! I am a student there and I adore it. They are totally flexible (based on need of course.) and offer scholarship opportunities. I auditioned for Charlie Brown there last year and the owners welcomed me with open arms. I wasn't just the annoying high school student tagging along with the cool college kids, I was part of the group with them. I took interest in the production class, but when I couldn't afford it, they offered me a work study program where I would only pay partial tuition. I helped (and still do help) with the 2nd-6th grade production class where I am learning how to choreograph and direct a show.

In response to the only 2 negative reviews on here, I can only imagine that they are parents who don't understand what goes into a show, let alone an outdoor one. Outside, you have to yell to be heard across stage. Outdoor acoustics are horrible. The kids who are there want to be there. My brother was in the Wizard of Oz and loved it. He adored being onstage and making tons of friends.

Upstage is a place to learn and make strong relationships. Children grow and improve every semester. Don't believe me? Come see the shows. :)

Our child is involved with Upstage Theatre in their Production class and in Voice lessons. The instructors there are top notch and relate well with the students. In the past two years that we have been apart of the theatre our child have made leaps in their acting as well as their singing. We have been to a couple of other theatre/ Academies in Edmond and they are by far, more professional and better in Teaching.

I would recommend Upstage and the Instructors at Upstage to all of my friends. If you have a child interested in Singing and Acting You should enroll them now cause the classes fill up fast.

I have been a choir and private voice instructor in Edmond for 14 years. I am so pleased to have a business like this in Edmond. Their voice instruction is "spot on" - with their students reaching success in all state, regional honor choirs and musical auditions. Their understanding of the development of children and make appropriate choices for them vocally and emotionally. I find them to be nurturing and accepting. It doesn't matter what your child's experience level in the performing arts is - at Upstage they will find an open and caring experience with outstanding instruction. Don't wait - sign up now - because the studio fills fast due to the instructors outstanding relationship with students and parents.

My Daughter has gone to Upstage and she loves it there. She takes both voice lessons and acting classes, where she has grown so much as a performer. I am so happy with the instructors and classes. They have really helped my daughter to really open up and be more outgoing.

I have spoken with many of the parents and they all love it at Upstage as well and they have nothing but great things to say about the owners/ instructors. I have read the other reviews and I don't believe them at all.

I give Upstage a great review and would recommend it to all of my friends.

The owner of this theatre has no idea how a business should run. She does not know how to communicate with children other than being harsh and yelling at them. She is also extremely unprofessional towards the parents. I am only one of the parents who feels this way about her. We all talked about how our children never want to work with her again. If you do not want to take away your child's passion for theatre and arts, do not send her to Upstage Theatre&Performing Arts Studio in Edmond.

Please consider looking at other options before sending your children to Upstage Theater or working with them in any way. The owner does not understand the basics of how to treat her customers and has a real problem with her temper.

Seriously consider going elsewhere. It is not worth the pain or problems of dealing with her.

I am writing this review based on direct dealings with Upstage Theater as well as discussions with other concerned parents.
