Dr. Castro is just wonderful with our dogs. The staff make sure to get us in timely. Dr. Castro plays with them and respects my larger dogs boundaries. He does much better with her than he has any other vet. She tells me like it is. She does not acuse me of negligence but does let me know if I'm doing something wrong or inadequate. She keeps me informed on natural remedies that I can use at home to prevent the need for prescriptions later. She gives me options. She doesn't let me waste money on unnecessary testing. My dogs love her and so do I!

When I woke up one morning to three of my cats not being able to hardly breathe or meow I rushed into Edgewater Animal Clinic where I had been a patient already, but was turned away saying that they were too busy. I then took them to Beechwood Animal Clinic where they have never been, and was greeted with a smile and my cats were seeing within a half an hour.
Now my mom, who has had all her pets there since they were kittens and puppies, is dealing with her oldest cat and 90% kidney function loss. He had his last checkup yesterday and instead of being sympathetic with her while she was in tears all they tried to do was tell her to vaccinate him when he had one day left to live. Really??? Who does this to a patient? How can you look at a woman crying her eyes out with a cat who can't even move or use the bathroom and expect her to pay to vaccinate the cat when he barely has one day left.?! My mom said the employees there seems scared of dr. Castro, rather than being just insensitive.
So we have moved all of our pets over to Beechwood Animal Clinic on Beachside, including the poor cat who is being put down this afternoon at 2. My mother knew it would be best to let him see a doctor who actually cared rather than spend his last minutes at a vet who wants to just make money. We will never recommend dr. Castro to anybody.

This response is being written on behalf of myself, Dr. Kim Castro and my clinic, the Animal Clinic of Edgewater. I believe that anyone who posts a comment of that callousness about anybody does so for different reasons. The first being guilt. Most people realize they have waited too long to get their animal in to the vet and know that the severity of the problem is their doing. Another being a result of this guilt turning into anger - the doctor doesn't do it their way. A doctor is presented with a case that has gone on for too long and when the doctor can't make it perfect for the owner and the pet or drop everything they are doing to fit them in, it is the doctor's fault. I have a very hard time believing that anyone would wake up to 3 cats, all at once and all of a sudden, having difficulty breathing that were perfectly fine the night and days before. It would be extremely rare unless possibly in the case of being in a house filled with smoke from a fire and having severe smoke inhalation. As far as being in this for the money, obviously there is a strong misconception on how much veterinarians make. If I got into this profession to get rich I certainly got screwed. I should have picked a different profession. Thinking that a private practitioner who owns her own practice is rich is false. I will be paying off all my debts I have incurred way after I retire. I struggle to pay bills just like everyone else. I hope for anyone that has been upset or "wronged" by a doctor, dentist, veterinarian, or any other service professional, that before you post potentially harmful comments that you take a deep breath first and look in the mirror.

best around

I have owned multiple dogs as many as 6 at a time and have lived in volusia county for 20 years. I went through several vet clinics before finding kim castro. I can say this about this clinic. They are the most compassionate clinic I have been to by far and have kept all my fur babies healthy and happy. She has also saved the life of my miniature pincher when he was attacked by my other dog. He was basically in "shock" for 3 full days after what took place. Animal clinic of edgewater took excellent care of him and honestly his condition he could have went either way. Over the years I have had nothing but positive things to say about this place.

Dont make the mistake of going elsewhere.

Animal Clinic of Edgewater is the best. They are truly a blessing in our community. Without Dr Kim I would not have found out about my dogs stomach blockage. She truly wanted to help my dog and help me in making him feel better. She is caring, loving, and is a veterinarian who is in practice for caring for pets. She is more concerned about helping animals than she is about making money. Most vets only care about the mighty dollar. Dr Kim and her entire staff care more about your pet's welfare and your position in their care. I trust Kim 100% and will be a client forever...I appreciate you Dr Kim more than you can imagine....God Bless!!!!!

Dr. Kim Castro is the lead ve...

Dr. Kim Castro is the lead vet and owner and may love animals, but has no idea what she is doing. They overbook and you never get the appointment time you were scheduled for. I have been going to Dr. Kim Castro for over 6 years and thought she was the best. I have a dog that has what I was told by Dr. Castro to be dry skin. She needs baths twice a week minimum. She also had a scratch on her left eye from a cat I have that occurred during an episode of playing. I took her to Dr. Castro and she gave me eye drops and some cream to rub on her eyes and told me she would be fine in a few weeks and back to normal sight. She also had a few lumps and Dr. Castro told me they were just small cyst's. This time I felt like I needed a second opinion. I went to a different Vet called Well Pet Care Center in Deland and dealt with Dr. Buck where he informed me after many tests that her skin is in very bad condition and has a fugal disease and atomic dermatitis that needs to be treated for the rest of her life because it is not curable. Its been almost two full days and she is doing so much better as far as her skin. However, she is almost deaf in both ears because after time the skin causes build up and infections in the ear. I am happy to say that she is on treatments for that. I have also noticed that my dog has a hard time getting upstairs and I thought it was because she is small and just slips, but its because she is blind and has no pupil response in either eye. How can a vet not know these things. And to out the icing on the cake, the reason I brought my dog there in the first place. The lumps. They are in fact CANCER, and she is scheduled for surgery. I also thought I was helping my animals by taking them to the vet, but in fact I was only hurting them by bringing them to Dr. Castro. I am so blessed I took them to Dr. Buck. I don't know what will happen with my dog, but I know that I will never forgive the Animal Clinic of Edgewater for the issues that were misdiagnosed and overlooked, so she could move on to the next client. I would never recommend bringing your pet to this horrifying place that should be shut down.

This response is being written on behalf of myself, Dr. Kim Castro and my clinic, the Animal Clinic of Edgewater. I regret that your last visit with your dog (in 2010) was not pleasent for you. I will admit that there are times when my clients are meant to wait extended periods before seeing me. This is an unfortunate fact of any medical practice as unforseen procedures, emergencies, etc. do arise. As far as the incident with your dog, I am glad that you were able to find out all the various things wrong with her. I would like to say, however, that before you use my name as the one who misdiagnoses animals and doesn't know what I am doing, make sure it was me, Dr. Kim Castro, that you saw. I checked your history on this dog and I have personally never seen this animal. It was seen by a PREVIOUS associate that is no longer with me for obvious reasons. I have only seen one of your animals for surgical purposes. I understand fully your discontent, but before you print adverse comments about anything, please try and use a little more accuracy.
