I have been enjoying the aquarium hobby for nearly 20 years and have visited almost every local fish store in the Chicagoland area, Madison, and Milwaukee in that time. I have been coming to Fish Planet regularly since they opened. They have the best fish and livestock by far! Greatest selection and health, I always see something new and rare. The staff is always very friendly and knowledgeable and animal care is their highest priority. And this store is amazingly clean all the time, I don’t know how they do it!!! They truly care about building long-term friendships and relationships with their customers, not just a quick and easy sale. A store who really supports the aquarium community. They are well worth the drive, check them out.

Steve is the most knowledgeable and friendly local fish shop owner in the chicago area. Small store but excellent selection and what he doesn't stock he will make an extra effort to get. And he will tailor his recommendations to your needs and ability.

I think the store and owner are great. Steve spends hours each month talking to my ten year old son, answering questions and discussing fish. New to salt water tanks Steve has helped us set our up and stock it. When we had an issue with flukes Steve was great to diagnosing and helping to resolve, stopping on;y short of replacing our fish for free :). I will continue to buy my fish from Steve and he offers only the best fish, advise and support. Way to bring some merchant pride to Deerfield!

What separates Fish Planet from other aquarium stores is their knowledge of product and quality of livestock. Every fish and coral that I have purchased is extremely healthy and has thrived in my saltwater systems. The owner Steve is very genuine, kind, and caring. He spends the necessary time with customers to allow them to make the best informed decision on their purchase. The store is very well organized, inviting, and livestock is easily viewable. The store has a great variety of fresh and saltwater fish and coral. I highly recommend shopping at Fish Planet.

Fish Planet is a beautiful store with a wonderful selection of fish, inverts, corals, plants and supplies. I was there on Sunday and bought an adorable clown goby and a few other things for my nano aquarium. I had a completely different impression of the owner than the last two posters. I felt he was knowledgeable, kind, and warm. I did not get the impression that he was the least bit of a snob. I will definately go back to Fish Planet.

The owner is a complete snob. He may seem to care, but he really only cares about himself. Doesn't open the store regularly. It is supposed to be a business.

I have been to many, many fish stores and Fish Planet is the best. The store is not big, but what you find is a high quality selection of some of the most interesting and healthy fish. The owner, Steve, personally selects and brings in new fish each week so it's worth a stop-in just to check out what's new. Steve is full of great advice and uses all the products that he sells - so he knows what works best. That advice alone is worth a visit if you've got a fish disease issue or just want to make your tank look it's best. It's hard to find a place that you can trust and is not trying to get you to buy more products. If you've never been here, it's worth a visit. And make sure you meet Steve.

I found Fish Planet while surfing the net and decided to visit. What a place! The owner was cleaning some tanks but was more than happy to answer all my questions. This guy knows his stuff! I have been to most of the LFS's in the area and will continue to make the rounds but Fish Planet will be my first stop! If you are into corals and saltwater fish this is a must go. I like freshwater oddballs and live plants and they had things I have never seen before. I think the health of the fish and clenliness of the store are really impressive. Call ahead as the hours are a little confusing.

A store with purpose. I read a review stating Fish Planet would not sell fish that were not suitable for captive life. This means a lot to me. I visited and the owner (Steve) explained his education and personal feelings about owning a fish store. I was impressed! I'm not going to pretend to know all about corals and saltwater fish but they had a huge selection! I'm a freshwater guy and left with quite a dent on my credit card! Actually I could have spent more but he talked me out of a few fish he felt were not suitable. When was the last time a retailer turned down money? Thanks for being an honest fish store, I'll be back!

phenominal fish store. great selection of fresh and salt water fish, corals, and supplies. very knowledgeable, personable staff, and reasonable prices. this is also a fair store, and will not sell items that ar known to be ill or that are not advised for your aquarium
