The aides are inattentive and negligent. Do not believe their spiel about checking in every hour; several times the aide would just walk in and push the cancel button without checking in. They did not read my mother’s chart well and did not listen to the knowledge we had gained about her situation in the 40+ days in ICU. My mother was sent to Select Specialty to be weaned as much as possible from the ventilator, but they kept her on 100% oxygen for 2-3 days and only tried two short trials. She lost her will to live in less than 24 hours at Select Specialty, and 3 days later she was gone. She suffered a severe bleed around her trachea site after the nurses and doctors kept her on two blood thinners, even when she showed signs of bleeding in her urine 24 hours prior. Her doctor only showed up once to pack gauze around the trachea and cover it with tape, then left, not to be seen again. She bled for 5 more hours before another doctor showed up. It was too little, too late by then.
