No Nonsense Approach

I've seen Dr. Gessner 3 times to discuss a recurring ankle sprain as well as proposed bunion surgery. I injured the ankle November 2009. After 10 months of PT, I re-injured the ankle by just squatting to do some gardening. I've seen 5 DPM's and had one MRI for the ankle since it got injured. Dr. Gessner is the only doctor who suggested that he could go in a fix the ankle with surgery. Surgery would tighten the ankle, relive nerve pain, and research the tendons where the pain occurs. Others suggested more PT, shots, and pills (even after 10 months). Dr. Gessner spent a lot of time w/me on the first visit, and took my ankle injury seriously. He is pleasant, has no ego, and talks to you like a real person. I'm terrified of surgery and have all kinds of questions. He has answered them patiently. He also discussed bunion surgery for a severe bunion. He suggested that he could do both the ankle and bunion surgery at the same time. My only concerns with him is his lack of Board Certification (at least not posted), and lack of referrals through word-of-mouth. Only my Physical Therapist has heard of him and heard he was a good surgeon. His other credentials all look good. I still have one more doc to see for an alternative opinion.
