Fun for all.

A friendly neighborhood bar – nothing fancy mind you but we enjoy the free entertainment on Fridays and the singing and dancing too. We have also watched several playoff games there as the big-screens are well positioned throughout and the prices are reasonable as compared to other locations. Quite a diverse crowed too; a good mix of young and old based on our experience. Everyone who walks in is encourage, at some point, to join in the fun. John's host's and is quite the showman as he tries to get everyone involved. I must admit that it’s also nice to walk around and chat with people and not have to worry about some goof slithering up next to my wife as she enjoys the show. An all-around, decent neighborhood bar!

I went to Zachary's for their Thursday open mic_ I had been playing open mics around Chicago regularly and wanted to check this place out since I live so close. If you are white, a little racist, and at least over forty then there is a chance you'd like Zachary's. If not let me tell you about the place.

First off, I'd hesitate to even call this place a dive bar. Granted it was a thursday night_but its also the night of one of the biggest football games of the year. When i walked in with a friend of mine we were immediately stared down by every single person in the bar except the band who never seemed to look at us- but i wasn't gonna let these jerks dictate the person I am. So I came in and greeted everyone that made eye contact with a smile. After we passed the people with all their stares we found a place to sit (there's not many_maybe they didn't want us there due to lack of seating). As soon as we take a seat the bartender says "okay, guys I'm gonna need to see some ID's" (more like a cop than a bartender but I expected as much). Well he looked at our two IDs for at least a SOLID minute under bright light near the bar_either he can't read or he couldn't decrypt the series of numbers and slashes that made up our dates of birth. (maybe I'm being harsh and he just had to get a calculator out, no big deal)_Anyway, he eventually asks, "what can I get you?" I say, "we're just here to check out the open mic." He says "you got a camera? Take a picture." _Well, what can you expect from a bartender_so i smile and say "wish I had one", then turn to my friend and signal for a walk out- no objections from either party.

I basically gave them what they wanted but I wanted out waaay more then I wanted to stay in. I was in there for all of two minutes and it was two minutes too long. You really have a taste for Franziskaner Weissbier as is advertised outside?- then go across the street and buy some from Foremost_ its cheaper and they're hell of a lot nicer. DRINK AT HOME FIRST, DRINK DRANO FIRST_GO TO HELL FIRST_MAKE FRIENDS WITH PEOPLE IN PRISON FIRST (pretty noble)_TAKE A FRIEND TO A DANGEROUS NEIGHBORHOOD FIRST_TWIDDLE YOUR THUMBS FOR A WEEK FIRST_THEN IF ITS KILLING YOU TO STAY AWAY -GO TO ZACHARY'S AND ENJOY THE DISCRIMINATING, WASHED UP, DIVE-BAR, ATMOSPHERE
