When the Cherry Hill Fire Department decided to establish a web presence, we followed a long-standing practice that continues to serve us well - Answering the question, "What information can we provide that will be useful to the community we serve"? With that goal in mind, we take pride in offering cherryhillfire.org as another tool in our community's defense against fire, emergency medical crisis and environmental and life safety issues. We take your safety seriously and work continuously to identify and plan for any circumstance that may cause harm to you or your family. Our integration of Emergency Medical Services, deploying more ambulances throughout your neighborhoods than ever before, and the fact that your firefighters are cross- trained as Emergency Medical Technicians ready to intervene at a moment's notice when you or a loved one is in need, has made us a leader in the region in providing EMS. In Cherry Hill, we have firefighters specially trained in Hazardous Materials response which includes Weapons of Mass Destruction, the latest threat to our nation. Let's not forget our primary role; to confine, control and extinguish fires, the most feared element we know. In 2000, there were 368, 000 home fires in the United States, resulting in 3, 420 deaths, 16, 975 injuries and $5.5 billion in direct property damage. We are committed to educating our citizens in methods to prevent these unfortunate incidents. Another benefit of our web presence will be our ability to inform you of our actions both large and small. Previously we only made our way into your home during an emergency or with the morning newspaper. For every big press story, we have another dozen stories about things we do and the people we interact with that are just as important. Look for informative and current information about important stories happening in our community. In addition, we hope to introduce you to the people behind the scenes serving in many roles doing what our Chief calls "Setting a New Standard for Public Safety Services".
