Is massage right for you? Massage therapy can be a wonderful addition to your healthcare routine. However, there are some conditions and medications for which massage is "contraindicated" or not advised. These conditions include (but are not limited to): * First Trimester Pregnancy * Recent Heart Attack or Stroke * Contagious Viral Diseases (Including the Common Cold) * Cancer * Blood Clots * Recent Fracture or Surgery * Fever * High Blood Pressure When you place your initial call or email, I will ask you several questions to make sure massage therapy is right for you. Your health and safety are important to me! Is your environment conducive to a pleasant massage experience? Nothing is quite like the bliss of letting go and being pampered. Make sure your environment is free of distractions that may inhibit your experience. Ample space for the massage table with room for me to move around on all sides is required. Before your massage: Do not take any pain relievers with several hours of your appointment as it may interfere with your ability to detect pressure of strokes. Alcohol consumption is not recommended before a massage. A warm bath or shower can warm up your muscles and make the massage more effective. During the massage: Communicate your preferences for lubricant, pressure, speed of stroke, music, etc. Appropriate draping is used at all times. If you are cold or feel uncomfortable, more covering can be added. After the Massage: * Drink plenty of water! * Enjoy Your Relaxation
