The first high school for African American students in Charlotte, Second Ward High School was the heart of a once flourishing black neighborhood. During a time of segregation, the school provided respect and safety . After the loss of the school, the alumni organized the Foundation in 1980 to keep the Second Ward legacy alive. The Foundation has purchased a House which serves as our museum and stores our archive. It is available for meetings and research.
