The Centralia Police Department protects lives and property, reduces crime and enforces local, state and federal laws. It maintains administration and patrol divisions, as well as operates a communication center that responds to various emergency and nonemergency calls for service. The department s detective division conducts in-depth criminal investigations. The Centralia Police Department maintains a citizens police academy that educates residents and youths regarding the structure and activities of the department. It has a Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T.) team that specializes in bomb disposal and hostage and gunman situations. The department supports Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E), which is an international program that helps students to stay drug- and trouble-free.
