This is an email I received from one of the owners at Hanley Lake Cove. I rented the place for my 90 year old father (WWII veteran) and my 85 year old mother. This guy, Gary, disguised himself as a maintenance worker to check on my parents the first day. My brother and his 3 sons were visiting my father. He proceeded to call my mother after the visit and berate her about letting "kids" (three college graduates) party at his condo. My mother was brought to tears and they ended up leaving one week into their two week stay.

Today, I get the following email from this guy:

Rick, I am forwarding you a message from the developer of Hanley Lake Cove, who still serves in the capacity of management. The issue at the pool is a perfect example of the point that I made to your Mother and you also, ( which you chose to not take seriously) when I referenced that our place was not intended to be "party central" for your irresponsible and uncaring younger relatives. The fact that your Mother and Father left because they were cautioned against this type of behavior and it happened anyway tells me that my suspicions were correct in that an 85 year old woman has no control or influence over young adults who "just don't give a damn" about respecting other people's property. Your family owes me an apology for the renegade behavior they exhibited while occupying our condo development. The young adults only came along to "party" no matter where they could find a spot to do so. I did not intend to rent to self absorbed and immature individuals when working through you for the rental arrangement.

I am traveling to Central Lake on business on Thursday and will be personally inspecting my condo for the condition in which it was left. Perhaps your California idea of spotless is far different than my Michigan idea. You all seemed to forget that we live in this condo. It is not like a hotel that you can simply leave in any condition and expect some housekeeping staff to put it all back together again. I stress again, no cleaning fee was asked of your parents because I trusted that their behavior while staying would not warrant an extensive post stay clean-up. I don't care how many places your family has rented over the years this kind of disrespect for property that belongs to other people shows very little class.

Believe me, I do not expect a spotless place when an 85 year old woman with an incapacitated spouse is left in charge to do the final clean-up.
