UW Tacoma in Tacoma, WA. is one of three campuses that make up the University of Washington, the other two are in Seattle an Bothell. Since UW Tacoma’s founding in 1990, more than 10,000 graduates have earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees here.

Campus

UW Tacoma is a small, urban campus. You can walk from end-to-end in five minutes, unless you stop to chat with friends between classes. The university shares its historic buildings with restaurants, coffee shops and other stores, so there’s always a place to grab some lunch or a snack. The community is seamlessly integrated with campus; students feel the energy of being downtown. And even though it’s small, you’ll find everything you need here. You can buy your text books or check out a movie, get free wi-fi in most buildings, go to a concert, work out, join one of more than 30 student clubs, do volunteer work, hang out with friends or find a quiet place to study — all without leaving campus.

Set in the historic Warehouse District, UW Tacoma owes its charm to century-old, stately brick buildings that were built to last by businesses that depended on the railroad in the late 1880s and early 1900s. The university has earned architectural awards for transforming the buildings into modern classrooms. In the design of its beautiful campus, UW Tacoma honors the traditions of the Northern Pacific Railroad and its part in establishing Tacoma as the City of Destiny.

Location

The campus is located on a hillside overlooking the Port of Tacoma and Mount Rainier, on the southern edge of downtown Tacoma, next to museums and the beautifully reconstructed Union Station. Within walking distance are a vast array of restaurants, attractions, businesses, shops, parks, museums and historic architecture. The Link, a 1.6-mile light rail streetcar, stops right in front of campus and offers free rides from the center of downtown to the Tacoma Dome. You can also catch a bus right in front of campus.
