In recent years, U.S. News and World Report named UCCS a top Western public university, placing it seventh in its most recent edition. In addition to its academic programs, UCCS fields 14 men's and women's NCAA Division II sports teams and has a full range of student life programming.

The Chancellor’s Leadership Class (CLC) is a highly selective undergraduate honors program designed to develop effective leaders. To allow students to focus their full attention on the program, CLC provides a $3500 scholarship renewable for up to four years.
Athletic programs: UCCS competes in 12 intercollegiate varsity sports in NCAA Division II.
UCCS offers more than 100 student clubs and organizations.
