Child-Custody-A zero star would be a more accurate rating. As a first time mother with a 3 year old, I am more than disappointed with Ms. Butler. I had to pay over $300 for a consultation and an additional up-front fee of $7,500 that was non-negotiable and had to be paid in full before any services would be rendered. I totally agree with another client as quoted-"Had an awful consultation with Laura Butler recently. She was very rude and not comforting in my case. This was my first time dealing with a situation like this and I did not need someone yelling at me. I felt she wasn't on my side. She wasted my money and did not give me any legal advice, but only her opinion on my situation. I'm right where I started and even more upset about my case from the beginning. I wanted to go to someone to seek advice and all I got was criticism the whole time. I didn't go there to be told I was an overprotective parent and to just let the opposing side have his way. To have someone who is supposed to be giving me legal advice, not putting me down for having my children to begin with is wrong. Her lack of concern for my children makes me question her abilities as a subjective, legal representative. I am going to find a lawyer to help me that doesn't make me cry." I also tried to fire Ms. Butler 10 days before the court hearing, right after she first told me that she wanted to "fire me as a client." However, Ms. Butler essentially told me that I did not really have a choice and that she was bound to use all of the retainer fees and go to court as my attorney anyway. In the end, I got virtually nothing in return and ultimately, the guardian at litem had decided to write the final agreement minutes before the hearing. This required the judge to wait over one hour. The opposing side/parent, who was a convicted felon with a history of traffic violations and violence to include a previous emergency protective order, got completely everything he/they asked for; and in my opinion felt I was in fact financially scammed by my intimidating, pompous and unsympathetic attorney! I will never go back to this law firm or use Ms. Butler as an attorney. (May 2012)
