High Desert Museum

The High Desert Museum in Bend, OR, was created in 1982 to wildly excite and responsibly teach. The museum is home to more than 100 animals that cannot safety live in the wild due to an injury or disability.

We also feature two major, permanent exhibits: the Spirit of the West, which tells the story of the region, from a Paiute encampment and buckaroo bunkhouse to a mine and an 1880s settlement town and By Hand Through Memory, which takes visitors on the journey of the Indian nations of the Columbia River Plateau, from reservation confinement to the 21st century.
