18 Year Search for Hair Stylist by ballroom diva - 09/04/2009I moved to the Portland/Vancouver area 18 years ago and have been searching ever since for someone who could replicate my previous favorite haircut. Recently I found Mike! Although a couple of other stylists came close during that time, Mike surpassed them all. He is a great listener and isn't afraid to try specific requests, plus he has the capability to follow through with the necessary skills and experience.Usually I will work with a stylist for about six months. If they don't understand what I want by then, it's definitely time to move on. Mike makes sure of your intentions through active listening and questioning for confirmation before starting the cut. If you have had trouble with others not really "getting" your haircut, make an appointment with Mike; he's fabulous.
The art of hair, and the artist by berta - 07/19/2009I had an extreme mess on my head. Long hair with numerous colors left from doing it myself and a good swath of grey on top. Despite the fact that I didn't communicate the problem well when I made the appt., Mike was TRULY a miracle worker. In a couple of hours, he made me look and feel beautiful again.
Mike is wonderful!!! by Jewls - 06/04/2009My hair is the hardest to manage, some is straight and smoe is curly. I have cowlicks in the back and a place in the front that grows funny as well. My hair will not hold a color for long. THe texture gets worde every year. I had almost given up hope for my hair when I found Mike. He has me in a style that works and a color that lasts. He has turned me on to products that make my hair feel like it did when I was a kid. After 20 years of going to many hairstylists I have finaly found the one I will use forever. I just cant say enough to tell you how good I feel about my hair now. Mike has given me multiple colors and cuts and my hair always looks great! I get compliments all the time now even when I just wash it and go. Mikes prices are very reasonable. His shop is always clean. If you are looking for gerat service and a relaxing, comfortable atmosphere then Mikes shop is the place to be. The Art of Eyebrows! by movind - 06/04/2009Two months ago I picked out The Art of Hair to call for an estimate to get my brows tatooed. I knew that after decades of 'thinking' about it, I would eventually do it. Skeptically, I moved forward. I'm sure those of you who are from the 60's are familiar with the plucking of your brows until there is nothing left to grow!!! Well, I'm one of those. It would take me a good 10-15 minutes each morning to "do" my brows. Well, now that I've gone to Mike, the mornings are almost carefree when it comes to my makeup routime. He did an AWESOME job on my brows. I am a dark-haired woman and he matched my color wonderfully. The process was virtually painless! He does a 'needleless' numbing application that works great. I am very happy with my new brows and encourage anybody who has this problem to check him out. His eye for the painting he does, which is beautiful I must say, folds into his eye for your brows. He made sure that they were uniform to my face. Best decision I've ever made.

When I get my hair highlighted and cut, I constantly get compliments and refer as many people as I can. He is honest with you about your hair decisions and offers great options. He's the best by Tammy H. - 04/19/2009I found Mike by accident on the internet. After looking at the pictures of his cuts on his web site, I decided to give him a try. Needless to say I was extremely happy! My hair was very dry, frizzy and lifeless. He matched my color perfect and my hair has not looked this good in years. His shop is very clean and relaxing. I would recommend Mike to to anyone. Irma is also a joy and quite entertaining. Give him a try and you will not be disappointed.
Great colorist and aesthetician by Always Loyal - 03/13/2009Michael has cut and colored my hair for nearly 12 years now, as I've followed him from one leased station to another, until he now has his own shop. I wouldn't let anyone else touch my hair as both color and cut are always exactly what I want. As other reviewers have noted, I am constantly getting compliments on both cut and color from friends and strangers. Michael also does the most luxurious, wonderful facials! And he brings products to my attention that I didn't know existed--he sold me a treatment for my rosacea which has allowed me to stop taking prescription antibiotics for the first time in years. Love him, love Irma!!
Professional Hair Removal by jack044 - 11/12/2008I first visited Michael's shop for the hair removal service that he offers. His waxing technique is very thorough and meticulous, leaving the skin smooth and hairless. I am now going through a topical treatment for permanent hair removal with Mike. I am pleased with the service and results.

He and I have been through different colors, weaves, styles through the years and I have never been disappointed. Micheal is the best colorist and my hair looks consistently great from the time I leave his shop until I return for my next cut and color. I often receive compliments on my hair from my friends and very often from complete strangers. I love the time I spend with Mike and Irma at my appointments; the atmosphere is uniquely relaxing and full of good energy. Highly recommended!
Try Michael - You'll Like the Results ! by Hip 40 Something - 10/06/2008When I moved to this area 3 years ago from Southern California, I was ready to change my hair. I picked Michael out of the crowded field. First appointment, I had Michael cut and color my hair the same. As I felt comfortable with him I took the big step on my next appointment. I brought in a book of hair styles and we worked together to design my new cut. It was a big change and everyone loves it! I especially love it because it is easy to take care of and grows out well. I have also had Michael wax my brows and gotten pedicures and manicures. I appreciate the attention to detail he brings to these treatments. Also he has always been very accommodating to my likes and dislikes. Love the shop. It is such a treat to spend time there.
Problem hair no longer by reinersrock - 10/01/2008I have always had dry, frizzy and unmanagable curly hair. Michael saved me by giving me a great cut that works with my hair texture and lifestyle. He has recommended excellent hair products that have restored the condition of my hair. But I think his greatest skill is with color. I have gone from dark brown to variations of red and blond (I get bored with the same color) and my hair is in the best shape it has ever been with my colors always looking completely natural!
Look no more! by Elesa - 09/30/2008I was very gun shy when i first let Michael cut and color my hair - i've had a lot of hair mishaps and am very very picky! He does an excellent job w/ my color and cut....and is a lot of fun and always makes me laugh - He is very professional and his shop is very clean and inviting. I will never "cheat" on him and he has a client for life with me.....He understands my style and where ever i go i get compliments and people want my hair!!!! He also has all the latest products and doesn't over price them like some salons do to turn a profit which i appreciate beigns i am a product junkie!!!

But a friend recommended Michael, and I love my hair. I don't have to fuss with it like I used to, and I've never gotten so many compliments from friends and strangers. When I decided to change my hair color, Michael understood what I wanted, and I love my new color. Michael's one-man shop is a relaxing experience, and now I recommend him to my friends.

Always get what you need by DJT - 09/09/2008It took me a while to find a hair stylist after my long-time stylist retired. I was referred to Michael by a co-worker. I did not have to look any further. Michael has done a great job for the last seven years keeping my color and cut perfect! His shop is very inviting and comfortable. After you meet him, you will soon learn he loves what he does. You will also meet "Irma" his very friendly pooch. She is a sweetheart. Give Michael a try and you won't go back to your current stylist!

He knows color, plus what color will look best with your skin tone and what is best so your gray will blend as it grows out! I always get compliments on my hair color, even from strangers! The best colorist on the west coast by Seam Diva - 09/04/2008Michael has been doing my cuts and color (a three-color weave on really fine blonde hair) for over 10 years. Before finding him I really did try many stylists in Vancouver, Portland, Seattle and Los Angeles--and he is the best! My hair always looks natural and grows out in a way that is subtle. Add a great cut and style and you've got it all right here. The Art of Hair is a charming and clean shop that is a pleasure to spend time in.

I have followed him from shops where he rented a space to the shop he now owns and runs himself. I have absolute trust in his ability and I never leave his shop feeling unhappy about the way my hair looks! He will not lie to you about how something will look and is all about helping you figure out what will look great! I even managed to convert my husband away from Supercuts and he's been going to Michael for years as well!
