Go there with your new fiance after your proposal has been accepted! by bones5 - 10/29/2007
We had peanut butter fudge to celebrate our bond. Twenty-four years later we're still together and we still go to the Antique for fudge. And pie. And lunch.
Call for their concert and open mic schedual, and when there's no music on stage your kids can play on the stage with an engaging collection of toys.
Sandwiches, pots of tea; all are enjoyed in an interesting with "fair trade" crafts (for sale) decorating the airy diningroom. Wooden tables and chairs in a variety of styles are scattered about. Homey!

Sometimes the staff get confused about orders, but if you point out their mistakes they are very gracious and I have never had a problem getting something that was brought in error replaced with what I originally ordered.
The bathrooms are at the top of a steep stair at the end of the building, and are dark, pokey, and rickety. They have been like that for 20+ years -- it hasn't dampened our enthusiasm.
Before or after the zoo treat yourself to an Antique adventu

What am I paying for? by PoseyJones - 10/29/2007
I do not deny that the food is tasty and that you have some good vegatarian options. But you can spend as much here as at a good restaurant for a couple of slices of bread with a bit of salad thrown in. For what you get the prices are crazy. I have not been tempted to go back and I am almost nextdoor to the place.

great family choice by coates - 10/29/2007
This place is just plain good. They have an open mike/folk music bent, but clear off the stage and put out bundles of kids toys during the day. Just please tell me you wash them from time to time. The black bean burritos are top notch and get the side sald with tahini dressing. Everything is largely made from scratch.

healthy food by tay - 10/24/2007
Good healthy food, but the service and prices could use a little adjusting

Needs to improve by sleepy - 10/16/2007
Seems like a great idea and location is being squandered on over priced mediocre food with barely average service.

Good wholesome food by gmuney - 10/15/2007
Definitely a healthfood kinda place. The food is good the soups are great.

Best pot of tea in Tacoma by waterboy - 10/11/2007
This cafe is not your regular Tacoma spot. It's funky with a hippy vibe and laid bakc atmosphere.
It serves hot tea made how it should be in a big pot, home-made treats and has a great space for kids to play, what more could you ask for!

Yummy but grumpy by rd - 10/10/2007
We love to go here on after outings to Point Defiance, but the staff always seems so bummed out. Chill out guys! Good sandwich's, crazy prices.

Clearly my friends here are not as well acquainted with the place as I am. by PT - 10/07/2007
Okay. I think their food is good, but pricey.

But that was BEFORE I went in there one day and saw a homeless old man come out of the back room eating a cookie! That is where the rest of the food is! That is my belief anyway, and I don't think he was being supervised at all! I haven't got anything against the homeless, and I think that it is commendible that a business is so kind to them, but I just don't want them anywhere near food that you are considering feeding ME, or anywhere near anything that I have paid money to eat, unless it has been thrown in a dumpster first.

I don't go there anymore because of that, and that another homeless guy sits out front and I saw him throw up right on their front porch and they never cleaned it up. It just made a stain on the concrete.

I'm not mean, I just believe that my food should not be exposed to any potential germs. I think that's fair to ask.

Show Me The Honey! by ScpBkQn - 10/03/2007
Great place for unique dining. Whole-foods without all the sugar. There is honey on your table for sweetening your drinks rather than sugar. I love that the kids can play with an assortment of toys while my bff and I sit and chat.

Sprouts and Cheese Please! by belf - 09/19/2007
Who knew that a simple sprout and cheese sandwich could taste so good. The Antique is a Tacoma landmark, I have very fond memories of going there as a young kid. To this day I am still impressed by their old fashioned milkshakes that come in the classic soda fountain glass with the leftovers in the tin mixing cup. I also love their house salads, the ranch dressing is the best ever. The combonation of all of the above makes for a very satisfying meal with a homespun feel.

Funky place, very kid friendly by grrlmom - 09/17/2007
This is a cafe of sorts where you order at the counter and your food is brought out to you. They have many vegetarian options and most menu items are pretty health oriented.
They have an open mic weekly and other performances pretty regularly, but when the stage is not in use it is filled with toys and children are welcome to hang out up there and play. A great rainy day place to take restless kids or a nice place to stop for a coffee and homemade dessert after playing at Point Defiance zoo.
